LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 31313 Building Set (601 Pieces)

My 10 year old son (and I) love it! Easily downloaded and installed software. Built R#ptar, Track3r and Grip3r so far. Love included IR controller and Bluetooth control via mobile phone. Also downloaded & built the electric guitar (1 of 12 bonus models). This is not an 'easy' toy for the timid. You must follow the directions, which are well done, then gain knowledge about building AND computer programming logic. We haven't had something like this before but could see where some parts are fluff and more usable pieces would be nice. Comparing EV3 to other electric/robotic type 'toys,' I know we will more than get our moneys worth. Wal-Mart - please distribute the rechargeable battery that comes with the educational set!

If you're into LEGO products then you know they can cost a bundle and this one is no exception. The difference here is that you can build the set in an almost endless variety of combinations. There are great books that guide you through creating amazing robots following the usual LEGO detailed instructions. But you can create your own. It's not simple; it's not easy but it is outstanding!

I have an 8 year old who is really good at math and loves robots and electronics. Needs a lot of patience and adult supervision but is a great intro to robotics. I put value as average as this is an expensive "toy" but I did get a $75 walmart gift card to off set the cost!

My daughter and her friends love building robots and programming them to do obstacle courses. Expensive but my daughter saved for long time something to shoot for with responsibility.

This set helped me discover robotics and LEGO Technic. I love how many models come with the set - 5 main robots from LEGO + 12 additional designs you can download in the software. There are also a couple of great books with 6-7 designs each. So even those completely new to LEGO building have plenty of opportunity to learn the techniques. What I like particularly about this set comparing to the newer Mindstorms Robot Inventor is that you can program it in not just Python but a whole variety of languages (you'd need to use a custom Linux distribution on the SD card for that), although admittedly Python is an excellent choice because it's easy enough to learn for kids and is actually used in robotics a lot. Another thing I like about this set better is that it doesn't force me to use a mobile device.

Could not be happier with the purchase. My middle schooler is completely engrossed into it. The energy shifted from games to programming.

my son was happy to receive this gift. we have yet to assemble it however. the picture on the box is not necessarily the robot to be built which disappointed me somewhat but my son still liked the alternate robot. it arrived on time and hopefully once built will not turn out to be a dud.

Got this robot for my son for Christmas. He loves it.he hasn't stop playing with it.a lot of different options for building different robots

My son is enjoying playing with his robot and programming it to do different things. He is 11 and capable of understanding the instructionson his own

This is my first purchase on lego Mindstorms product range and I am entirely blown away by the variety of robots that I can create it with and definitely will help my child to boost his creativity with the many exciting robots that he can possibly create.
