Monkey king is definitely one of my favorite childhood legends. I've never expected to find the lego collection inspired by its stories. Thanks so much for bringing back my best memories! As I am a big fan of the architecture type of lego sets, this is my very first time of building a mech, therefore it was a bit of challenging but in a good way. It is bigger than what I expected, the colour of the set especially the cape is so beautiful. I really enjoyed it! There are also some small fun bits included in this set, like a restaurant and some characters, I think it is a good option if you have a kid to build it together. I would strongly recommend it! Such good fun!
This set is a fantastic mech with great features, as well as being an introduction to the story of the Monkey King, something I've been interested in for some time. I really enjoyed building and posing this, the colours stand out so well and it looks so impressive when finished. The build was not too challenging but the finished product is more than the sum of the parts. The extras, especially the building are well thought out. I'd only say that this seemed quite pricey when similar mechs in the Ninjago Movie range were much less money. Still, I can't help feel that the monkey is worth every penny.
Picked this up for the new theme, you know, just to see what the fuss was about and my god it is a beaut on display. Towers over any mech set I have and out shines any for display quality. Excellent 10/10 must buy!!
This set has a relatively intricate build system, and combined with the overall design and colour scheme delves the builder right into the world of monkie kid. From the moment the box is unwrapped with its exciting and playful grafics right through the final stages of the build and beyond, the builder is able to immerse in this colourful fantasy land. A great, exciting build, which despite marking down on expence I found very enjoyable.
My first time building a LEGO mech, boy did I have a total blast! For starters the side projects are perfect, the dumpling stand and associated characters are great! The whole set has such a slick and cool look to it. The minifigure with the Hawaiian shirt is amazing, looks much like myself, lol! Now to the big, glorious mech, sure he is a little hard to pick up and move around but jeez who cares it totally rules! As a build it is so much fun watching him come together, you just can't wait to rip open the next bag. I bought this without really thinking about the show, just how amazing this creation is and the LEGO designer attached is one of my faves! If you're thinking about it, just do it, it is such a fun build and looks incredible!
This set was just incredible!! Building this giant robot felt like building those giant robots from Pacific Rim. I've built a lot of LEGO sets over the year but this one was truly on my top 3!!! Even better than some modulars!
It's let down by one serious flaw. The thumb design on the mech is the worst I've ever seen. As such it doesn't grip properly like pretty much every other lego mech. I would of given it a perfect score apart from this flaw. Hopefully someone will publish an alternative design for the thumbs which position them better.
As a Ninjago fan, I bought this set with Ninjago Zane mech set 71738. I can say that this mech has an exceptional building experience. The completed build was quite bigger than we expect. Also, the complementary side builds i.e. the shop and small mech make this set very excellent. My only concern is the playbility of this mech. It was quite difficult to play due to the lack of stability perhaps due to the size comparing with zane mech. But overall, it is good for display.
It's head is loose and it's balance is poor.I don't really recomand this really to a friend.I think it's better for posing and staying in one place.
I have bought hundreds sets of lego for my son and myself , this is the first time I wrote the review, because it is so not stable and the parts keeps falling here and there when you play it. Even only for display, you have to find a very good pose to let it stand stable otherwise it falls easily even though you don't touch it. It has very beautiful color but terrible stable design.
