I'll admit, I was pretty skeptical about this line of LEGO sets. The price, the small model sizes, and all those stickers—none of it seemed worth it to me. I figured, what kind of experience could these little sets offer? So, I passed on them, assuming they were more for kids. But when the new, larger Lamborghini set (10337) was released, something sparked. Growing up in the '80s, I was obsessed with that iconic supercar. I wasn't quite ready to splurge on the big set, but I thought, why not give the Speed Champions version a try?
So, I picked up my very first Speed Champion. With no high expectations, I started building it. But now, looking at the finished model in front of me, I have to give a round of applause to the designer (or team) behind this set. I'm honestly amazed at how well they captured the lines and curves of the original Lamborghini in such a small model. The construction is clever, especially the way the rear side of the car comes together with those intricate joints and bricks to create a smooth, seamless look. The “no studs on top” technique is brilliantly used here, giving the car a polished, almost non-LEGO appearance.
It's hard to believe this is made of LEGO bricks!
The only downside is that the white printed on transparent pieces doesn't quite match the white bricks in saturation, which is something LEGO could improve. Also, I wish the windshield was packed separately—it's a bit of a shame that mine came scratched, especially since I planned to display it.
Overall, this set offered a fantastic building experience that completely won me over. Now, I'm hooked on the Speed Champions line and can't wait to collect more of these little masterpieces. For the price, they're an absolute steal.
