It's hard not to love this from the moment you take a look at the box and see BB-8 staring back at you. As someone who always wished they'd bought the R2-D2 set when it came out it was a no-brainer to build this little droid. The build was enjoyable, involved, occasionally tricky and a couple of times felt a little repetitive; but the 2 and a bit hours when pretty quickly and to see him take shape bag by bag was great. The external appearance hides the level of complexity and mechanics going on inside brilliantly, and the movement the mechanics create are very nicely done. The easy option would have been to have the head rotate only, however the additional effort the design team have gone to to create the authentic BB-8 head movement is well worth it and it's the first thing people comment on when they see it in action. The scale of the model is perfect for display, and the stand, info sticker and mini BB-8 make it a great shelf display piece for any collector (dusting it in the coming weeks and months won't be so much fun). In terms of playability, this isn't one the kids will be spending hours with, but then that isn't really the point with this one. It's on a slightly higher than normal shelf keeping it out of the reach of little fingers, although mini BB-8 seems to have gone missing, perhaps to a galaxy far far away! If you buy it and build it, you'll love it ..... and I challenge you to walk past it without giving the head a little wobble!

Ok, so first the build is a bit repetitive, but it's a sphere, so that should be no surprise. The interior mechanism for the moving parts was very impressive and satisfying. The play features are right on point. I really appreciated the layering technique used to achieve the spherical shape. I was very happy with the final result.

The BB 8 lego set is awesome I got it during Force Friday at our local store. I got home and built it right away it took me about 4 hours he has some awesome features like moving his head and sticking his lighter thumb out. Very well worth the money. It's my first lego set in a few years and I'm back on the lego train!

This adorable little guy has already got his Ucs debut with the Last Jedi line, I absolutely loved him in the force awakens and was eccentric when I saw that he was getting a big release. He is a good price for the pieces and the build is phenomenal! He's not too big, but that's fine by me as he is a smaller droid after all. His primary functions are wobbling his head around and giving the blue thumbs up! Both features are activated by these 2 working knobs on his side and work flawlessly, his head is also connected with a rubber band so that when you do turn his head, it looks more realistic and animated. Overall this set is fantastic and cute, any star wars fan would love this and definitely any Lego fan!

This was my first ever lego set bought for me as a present and as soon as I seen it I couldn't wait to get building, the whole building process is so enjoyable and satisfying, the building process was not difficult at all because the instructions are very clear and the final result is amazing. There isn't really anything that could make this set better apart from mabye lights and sounds. The only minor thing I think could be changed about this is that there could be some attachment to the door on the front to close it when you wind back the welding torch but it's not really anything major and the set itself is still amazing. I would 100% recommend this to anyone do not hesitate to buy it looks great and is great value for money.

Was a bit hesitant on this purchase initially but of course ended up pulling the trigger. My initial concern was the potential smaller than expected size and a monotonous build based on the shape. While BB-8 is a bit smaller than he appears on the back of the box, the final result is still stunning. Further, the build was surprising fun and challenging due to the many small white pieces. The big takeaway on this set is that it possesses a level of character not present in most sets. When you twist the side panel and the head moves he literally seems alive. The wobbly travel created by the use of the gears and rubber band create something very unique and incredibly close to the movie experience. The extending "thumbs up" torch is also a great touch although if I'm being super critical it would be great if the flame was a bit more vertical when extended as it is slightly angled when built. Overall, i would recommend this purchase. I am surprised it isn't a bit larger and advertised as a UCS for $25 more but for what you pay this is a really great set that has awesome display and play value.

First off, let me say that I love this set! My wife surprised me during a rough week by leaving it wrapped in my office. I hadn't even realized that this was a set! The build was incredible-- sure, it's a bit repetitive, but I found each side of the sphere to be varied enough to hold my interest. The small nuances in each side keep the overall build from becoming stagnant. I took my time over 2 days to put the little guy together, and he was such a blast! A good blend of technic and block pieces-- and the details are incredible! What surprised me most was the play feature! A rotating plate on BB-8's stage-right side spins his head, while a single rubber band around the spinning mechanism makes the head bob forwards and backwards as it spins. The action adds a huge amount of fun to the final, assembled product. I find myself going back to swivel his head multiple times per day. The display is an added bonus, too. I think it helps him look more "official"-- certainly, it keeps him from accidentally rolling anywhere! I would recommend this for just about anyone, as long as you like the look of the set! The plates are held in with technic pins, and the spinning discs on each side are easy to reattach if they accidentally pull off. Overall, a fun build, a fun finished product, and a sturdy model!

This is a set I was very excited to get, having seen the images of it I loved the fact that you get a stand and a spec sheet sticker like the UCS sets, I think these really finish off a set nicely. The box was bigger then I expected and it came with 6 numbered bags, the build was very enjoyable and it was a lot more intricate then I thought it would be, the amount of mechanisms inside this build are very fun to make and none of it was boring or repetitive, even the outer shell of BB-8, each side is built slightly differently. The build tool me roughly 3 hours and wasn't especially challenging but some parts were quite fiddly and require a fair amount of pacience. This set comes with some awesome functions, there are parts which you can turn on each side, one which makes the head turn around and the other makes the lighter thumbs up come out of the front, when you turn them it is a very smooth process and all moves very freely. It also feels like a very strong and solid build and you don't need to worry about carrying it around. You get a smart looking display stand and a spec sheet which is a really nice addition and doesn't take too long to build (not as long as some other stands like Slave 2 or TIE Fighter), you also get a minifig of BB-8 to go on the stand. I would definitely recommend this set to any Star Wars fan as it's an awesome build, looks fantastic and has cool play features and can work as a nice display piece, (it would also look awesome if you have the UCS R2D2!) Easily 5/5 for me!!!!

I liked this kit. I am a huge Star Wars fan and my R2 needed his pal. BB-8 was an easy build. I completed it in just under 3 hours. The internal mechanism is cool although I did have some issue trying to get the lighter to be pointing upright when activating. Might take a few tweaks to get it to point upward more. There was only 1 piece missing, which was no biggie. I've always got 1 or 2 extras laying around. I'd recommend this for anyone that loves the lego experience! It's fun and my mode for relaxation!
