Don't miss this Sandcrawler

Trdat November 20, 2018

Christmas is coming soon, and if you have the $(in this price range) for a gift for a child (or adult) who is a Lego Star Wars fan, this set is a must have. I've got the 2nd generation model of the Sandcrawler, and it is truly a great model--but it was a pain to build. Though, it looks great set up as a display. But you know what? This one looks just as good, and I bet it is much easier to build. The Lego designers have done a great job on this set! It costs about $160.00 less, and has as many play features. I like the interior of this one better. The figures are great too--here you get a death star droid and that orange astromech that appears on screen for a few seconds in "A New Hope". This set also comes with a neat work cart as well. For a little bit more, you can add the Tatooine battle pack--and then you'll have as much as the big set in terms of Jawas. No, you don't get Uncle Owen. But look for him later on (as well as Aunt Beru);I know Lego is going to come out with a Lars Homestead set (that's a hint, Lego!) So don't hesitate to get this indispensable Star Wars Lego set.

Utinni!!

Cheezemon August 16, 2018

I was really surprised to see this set released, and honestly not interested in it at first. But after seeing it at the LEGO store, I decided to pick it up. Really, how often do you get to pick up a Sandcrawler for a somewhat reasonable price?? The only other options prior to this one were the UCS, which were too expensive for most. This offers a really well designed set and play experience for a more attainable price. After building it, I'm very impressed. The build: This is a really nice build. Not overly hard, yet challenging enough that older builders will be entertained. Especially the tread mechanisms are quite intricate, and they look great when finished. Finished product: Its great! The finished product really comes out nice. I was surprised that the treads mechanisms actually work very well. Not only do they look great when finished, but it rolls very well across the carpet and will turn. The greebling on the top and back look really good. I might think this would be a compromise point on the cheaper set, but no. The interior in really nice too. Obviously, they can't pack as much in as the UCS, but they used the space well. There is a really cool computer setup on one side, along with a crane and view platform. The other side has an area where the droids awaiting sale can be put. The cockpit is pretty good too. The contols are nice looking. Minifigs: The droids are the highlights of the figs. RA-7 is really cool, and I don't remember seeing him before. His unique head mold is neat. R5-A2 is also a nice addition to any astromech collection and has a nice orange color. The Medical droid is a good fit. Nice sand color. Jawas are great. Not as rare as they used to be, but really can't have too many of them. Luke is an obvious choice for this set. Not too outstanding, but nice to have along. Cons: Really not much. The one thing I really would have liked to see is an Uncle Owen and maybe even Beru minifig. This could have been a prime opportunity to include them, but sadly it didn't happen. Hopefully we can get them in a more affordable set later on. Overall, this is definitely worth picking up. It's really well done, and they put a lot in for the price point. It has good play features as well. It's a unique set that stands out from the starships and other sets you may already have in your collection and a worthy addition. 9/10

Brilliant set! Jawa Sandcrawler strikes back.

Crojo August 26, 2018

I skipped the first Jawa Sandcrawler as it was too expensive, but at less than half the price of the UCS set, this new (smaller but still decent sized) Sandcrawler was worth the wait and didn't disappoint. It looks awesome on display, and has a lot of play features for kids - like a fold out crane to pick up the droid; a ramp for the Jawa speeder; and a control room up top for the driver Jawa. The walls and roof are removable to gain access to the inner areas. Some fans have complained about how few mini figures there are compared to the UCS set, but honestly this is much cheaper and more affordable, so it's a reasonable trade-off. Finally a Sandcrawler that doesn't max out the credit card but still packs a punch.

LEGO Sandcrawler

havasusam September 15, 2018

I'm so glad LEGO decided to make a somewhat less pricey Sandcrawler. Prior to this, the only way to get a Sandcrawler was to get the UCS one which is just too pricey for a lot of people, me included. I picked this set up and it was a fun build with only a few tedious parts in the building process (namely the treads), and the end product looks great. The vehicle is also pretty sturdy and incorporates some creative building techniques. I really liked the selection of minifigures as well. I don't know why it has taken me so long to get Tatooine Luke, but I finally got him in this set. The Jawas are cool to get too because they aren't particularly in a lot of sets. With the droids, I wish maybe for the price point that C3PO and R2D2 would also be included, but they exist in a lot of sets already so aren't too hard too come by. However, a new astromech droid is included in this set so that's pretty cool. All in all, I'm very happy with this set and happy with the fact that LEGO thought to release a non-UCS Sandcrawler for those of us not interested in spending quite so much.

When it's a gift, you don't criticize

PatrickA March 10, 2019

I received this set as a thankful gift for helping one of my friend in his kitchen renovation. The Sandcrawler is an emblematic steampunk beauty of Episode IV, and having it in my collection is a huge +++. But I notice it is a lot smaller and a lot less accurate than the Sandcrawler set that came out few years ago. Why are the sets becoming smaller and smaller year after year ? I do not know. The choice of minifigures is also smaller than the previous set. A lot more droids were included in the previous set. But, it was a gift, so I am very happy with it :) And as a collector, I always look for the display value of a set (or as a potential part of a future diorama) before buying it. And I like it's display epicness :)

Great set, and affordable for what it is

RubItWithChai November 12, 2018

After taking a break from LEGO, I've decided to come back now that I have some extra money to spend. I've been looking to make a Tatooine scene and knew that the old sand crawler was rather expensive, and then I stumbled upon this. It was an immediate grab, and was really fun to build, and for the most part no errors. I wish there was an R2 or C-3P0 but I had some lying around so that's alright. Comes with some cool droids I didn't have, although I do wish there were a couple others. Other than that, for the price I think it's really good and I definitely recommend.

A great set, but I wish it had been the UCS.

aFatalSpanking December 21, 2018

This set is a lot of fun to build, and it looks great on my shelf with my other tatooine sets. I love the detail on the outside of the Sandcrawler, and those Jawa control panels are fantastic. I liked the assortment of mini figures: 2 jawas, 3 various droids, and Luke, although he is probably unnecessary. My only complaints are fairly minor. The biggest being that there is too much empty space on the inside. It looks as though the interior is 1/4 finished. I like it that you can remove panels to access the inner workings, and the hinged sides are a great way to reveal important parts of the inside, but they are too small to let you see much. beyond that, both sides and the ceiling can easily be removed to gain access. There is a crane for lifting droids and other cargo off of the cart and onto an upper storage area within the crawler. The crane has limited mobility and can't actually reach the intended storage area, unfortunately. I'd say “that's where imagination comes in” but this is an expensive set and shouldn't require so much imagination. Also, I would like a shelf or a crate on the inside to hold the jawas tools and weapons. There's plenty of empty space, and this would only require another 8-10 small pieces. I'm not sure why it wasn't included. But on to more of the positive! There are many good things about this set, and I DO thoroughly enjoy it despite the few areas where it falls short. The treads on the vehicle are an excellent design. There is a hidden tire behind each track, that the sandcrawler actually rests on (though it appears that the treads are what move it) and as the tire turns, so too do the treads. There's a small knob on the back that you can turn to move all four treads to steer the sandcrawler. The ease of access to the inside is something that is lacking in many toys, but not in this. It's done very well. I already mentioned the Jawa control panels, but I really must emphasize how great they are. Adorable! The kind of cute you'd expect from an Ewok (when it's not eating an imperial). For all the access panels and moving parts, i'd expect the sandcrawler to be fragile, but it really isn't. You do need to be careful where you pick it up from, since some parts are meant to come off easily, though. Another thing that makes this set great is that there are no stickers to apply (stickers never withstand the test of time). Overall, this was a great set. Fun to build, and fun for my daughter and I to play with. The only reason it doesn't get a perfect rating is that the interior isn't as detailed or as well thought out as the outside.

Great set with a few major flaws and minor flaws

StarWars12345 October 13, 2019

When I saw this in the lego catalog I was excited to get it becuase I didn't have a sandcrawler. When it said droid prison I thought something total different that and open place to put your droids there. I was glad that you didn't put R2D2 or C3PO because that means I can get new droids that I didn't have. I like how the Jawas torso were different, and the luke's head and minifigure body were perfect because they fit episode 4. The inside was a HUGE letdown but the control panel in the interior (not the control panel that drives the sandcrawler) was really good. Besides all that the set is really great. I added the R2D2 and C3PO from set 9490 escape pod.

Fills in a collection, but is lacking.

ShadowUYF March 4, 2019

Like other reviewers have stated, it's nothing like the previous version. But the price is more palatable. Would love to have someone other than my 10th Luke Skywalker (4th in the white tunic), and maybe some Droids from the movie, like an updated Treadwell. (At least it didn't have ANOTHER R2) Tracks are a nice touch, and somewhat pivotable and posable, but are not very stable for play purposes, and tracks are not as tight as they could be, and do not always spin on the gears correctly. Small details and usable internal space is where the set shines.

Not The Crawler You Are Looking For

ThePantherX December 13, 2018

Pros: A more economical version than the UCS predecessor. A few new figures...I like the Orange Droid. The play features are decent; the door opens and there are some internal details like the cockpit and the repair bay. The steering feature remains and works well. At $.09 per part the piece value is not bad but not great. Its actually a decent way to farm some nice brown parts for landscaping and terrain building. Finally and to its credit...NO STICKERS!! Huzzah! Cons: This set is BADLY proportioned. It just looks off and does not display well at all. It is also not very well built...picking it up is a tricky ordeal...entire panels will pop off if the grip is wrong. The figure selection seems off too. None of these droid figures seem to be in the movie it is representing...and while I like the Orange Droid a lot I would have preferred a few accurate figures and maybe Owen and Beru instead of Luke again. From the play aspect I don't feel this was a great set. The original sand crawler was similarly priced, came with 9 figures, 300 more parts and looked better proportionally. It was also much more stable in its play design. Overall a noble effort but this set is lacking. Even my nieces and nephews were not impressed with this version.
