There was a complaint that the x-wing model is too simple. Compared to other models in the micro-fighter series or more expensive ones it may well be. But the key thing to bear in mind is that this model is for 4+ years old and it was designed to be built in simple blocks. This also means that my 6 year old can tear it apart as a result of a crash or a dog fight battle with other fighters (which we all know is part of the fun) and put it back together on his own in 30 seconds. It is the perfect compromise between good looks and play experience. R2D2 is also a hit.
This model is (in my opinion) a really good product in every way, there was no frustating moments in the construction, the ship is bigger than I expected and looks really good at any angle , the new wing mechanism works totally fine, all the play features are impemented very well, and it has a perfect choice of minifigures. So, this is, without a doubt, my favorite lego star wars set until now.
This was my first Star Wars series set (how can i have waited so long to buy one) and I think that was the best way to get started! Very fun set to build, full of features (never thought possible!) and great for playing. Very realistic for fans of the Star Wars saga, like me. Excellent purchase that makes me feel like wanting more sets of this series.
Nice X-wing, the wing lever function and location is a nifty setup. The larger engines are cool. Always have to add some of the extras and personalize a bit, the engines actually seemed a tad short so added some length to the engines with white cylinders in the front to get them past the wings and moved the rear assembly back with dark gray bricks and some silver ingots to keep the balanced look.
This set, 75218, is my first classic LEGO X-Wing, as I didn't get the X-Wings before this except for Poe's X-Wing, which was different from this. First, let's get started on the mini figures: Luke Skywalker: I'm actually a fan of the new helmet design, I really like it. With that being said, the mini figure was awesome, with the classic torso piece and Luke's face with the new helmet, I especially like the detailed markings on top. Biggs Dark lighter: Again, the helmet mold has different markings on it compared to Luke's helmet. He has a nice mustache and is a very good figure. R2-D2: Not much to say, same as the other R2s being released as of now, with the classic astro mech build with R2's markings. R2-Q2: Same as R2, but with grey markings. And now, the build: First bag starts with some of the inside of the main body. Second bag completes the nose of the X-Wing. Third bag finishes the main body of the X-Wing. Fourth bag creates the two wings on the right. Fifth bag does the same to the left. Sixth bag finishes up the details and adds engines to the back. Overall a very fun build, I'd say, and the wings are repetitive but it wouldn't work without it being that way, the build for bag number 6 was the best, in my opinion, my favorite part was creating the front of the engines. The start of the X-Wing was also fun, creating the nose. Play features: Set contains 2 small spring loaded stud shooters on the sides of the cockpit area, and four spring loaded shooters near the blaster cannons on the tip of the wings. Using a sort of lever, you can pull the lever forwards to open the S-foils. Using a pin on the bottom, you can close it without pulling the lever back again, although you could pull it back with the lever as well. R2 can fit in horizontally, unlike the 2012 set. You can retract the landing gear and extend it as well. You can open the cockpit and put Luke or Biggs inside. You can swap out markings for Red Five (Luke) and for Red Three (Biggs). Set is very very easy to swoosh around and easily gripped and very sturdy to fly around the room. And that's all I can think of for the moment. Now on to... Aesthetics: For sure, the best looking X-Wing set yet, besides perhaps the UCS X-Wing. The best part of the aesthetics is the front of the engines, it uses something new rather than the pieces used in the 2012 set and before. The nose looks really cool, back of the engines look cool, the only bad looking thing is that the laser cannons are a bit short compared to the detailed 2012 X-Wing cannons. Spring loaded shooters can look off, so if you don't play with your set and instead display them, it is easy to take out the spring loaded shooter brick and fiddle around with the pieces already available, no need for spares. Also another bad looking thing is the pin on the bottom, though that isn't essential and can be easily removed. Also, the top with the lever looks weird sometimes, and I don't mind it, but some people might. Pros: Very swooshable, minifigures are very good. Build is very engaging. Arguably the best looking normal sized X-Wing yet. Front of engines are a huge improvement. Lever piece is very fun to use. Cons: Cannons can be short. Lever might be considered not good looking. Pin on the bottom looks off. The back of the X-Wing doesn't have fixed pieces, so the hexagon pieces might be slightly loose. Spring loaded shooters don't look too great. Back of engines fall off easily. Overall, I think even though the cons are more than the pros, the pros way way outweigh the cons in being more important. Besides, about ALL of the cons above can easily be fixed, especially the first few. Overall, one of my favorite sets, certainly my favorite display set that I have. I fully recommend this set to anyone who is going for the medium price of 50-100 dollars. Those who don't have an X-Wing, this is a very good set and if you want an X-Wing and don't have one, I really recommend this set. If you have enough money, the Solo TIE Fighter is a good set to pair this up with. So overall, amazing set, super cool, probably my favorite set to fly around in and to display. Probably one of the best Summer 2018 sets, along with the AT Hauler according to some reviews.
since 1999 lego has produced a number of X-wing models. each iteration better than the last. for the Rebel era X-wing, it doesn't get much better than this (except maybe the more expensive masterpiece version). good parts count, easy to follow instructions make it a joy to build. only downside is that Lego discontinued this set, making it somewhat difficult to find at a good price. even so, I would still say it that is a must have for any Star Wars Rebellion era enthusiast.
I'm more of a Star Trek fan but I also like Star Wars so when I saw this kit of the classic X-wing starfighter I thought time to get one. In terms of build there is nothing especially complicated. The bags are numbered (good) but I found the instructions are not great - they are a bit dark and at each build stage the new parts are (unusually) not highlighted so at first glance it can be difficult to see where some go. The wing opening and closing mechanism is simple and effective although I agree that the slot the lever operates in on top of the fuselage is (slightly) disfiguring as are the gaps where the hinges are but to be honest they're really not noticeable to a casual observer. It works well however and my elastic bands have survived the past few weeks (but it's for display not play in my case). Also mine has very very little "wing droop" in landing configuration but were it a real vehicle (sorry folks, real X-wings do not exist!) then it is likely this would be accurate - it is in many (real) aircraft. Overall this X-wing looks good, the canopy in particular gives a nice view of the pilot. My only (small) criticism of this kit is that the parts-per-pound count is not as good as some other recent kits. I think a nice touch would be to have included a stand so it may be displayed in the wings-open flying configuration but overall I consider it a good buy. Only drawback is that now I have to get a TIE fighter to balance things up :-)
This is so far the best X-wing ever out of all the X-wing. But the thing is, at the bottom of the X-wing there's this thing that sticks out when you are flying it around, also the hexagon in the back of the ship is not secured. But the engines are better they touch just like the movie and the Artoo unit is facing forward. Over all this is the best X-wing they came up with.
This is such a truly great rendition of the X-Wing but in my opinion it has two crucial flaws, the cannons on the wings and the engines on the back are too short. With a little look through Pick-a-Brick, with just a few additional parts (shown), you can transform the wing cannons and engines to how I've modified it! It is a great set either way for sure, enjoy!
Having not completed this I cannot give a full review yet. This is my first Star Wars lego set since 1999 and I was nothing short but thrilled to start building Lego Star Wars again. However about 2/3rd in I noticed two pieces missing and I scoured through the bags to see if they were elsewhere. They are a simple 2x8 piece and 1x3 piece for the wings so I cannot finish without them. I have filed a request for these pieces and noticed it can take 2-4 weeks before I receive my replacement. I'm sure I'll give this a better review later but for now I'll have to wait until I get some response and hopefully I can complete this set sooner rather than later.
