I loved building this set. It took just over 20 hours to build from start to finish. This included sorting all of the pieces out before starting to build each section. This is something I always do as it makes the finding of pieces easier later on. I had no problems with the setup and control of the motors using the Lego Control app and everything functioned as it should first time through testing. The control and functionality offered by the app is really great and something that I felt was lacking from the Bugatti build.
This is my 5th Lego Technic set and the biggest in size and pieces, I have the Ferrari on lay-by at a local store. I enjoyed building this set every moment was fun and sometimes challenging, I have learnt from my previous builds to sort the pieces first to make it easier to find what your looking for! I couldn't tell you how long it took to build but it was finished too soon. My TV can mirror my phone so I set up in front of it and have my instructions on the big screen which was so much easier to see what I had to do. I was missing 1 little piece that is on its way but it thankfully isn't an important piece and was able to finish the build without it. I look forward to building plenty more Lego for years to come. Thank you Lego for such amazing kits to keep us big kids building…
A fantastic set! I was expecting him (as well as 42110) since his announcement and I placed the order at 00:01 on 10/01/2019. Complex this set. Its construction was a challenge, with some mistakes, but it was worth it. Seeing the full capabilities of its 7 engines and 2 hubs was fantastic. And the simultaneous execution of various movements controlled by the Lego Control + App is new. Many possibilities offers the set, through firmware and software upgrades. Congratulations and continue on this path. One missing piece that the friendly and effective Lego Support service promptly sent. 5 stars for this service.
Great model to build, instructions are clear and easy to follow the only problem we found was in testing 2nd stage was, you need to have all the motors connected, but this was a minor glitch. The down side we came across was, missing pieces, in bags 1,2 and 3, so needed to wait for replacement parts to arrive before we could complete.
1000 steps, completed under 9 hours over 4 sessions while I was working from home. Love the amount of motors involved. No missing pieces. Steps were easy to follow, app sync perfectly and calibrated properly as well, very good set to have
Loved doing this build. Instructions spot on and didn't mind the amount of pieces per set of bags. Now Lego, bring out a low loader Transport that will carry this :)
When I seen this kit available I immediately knew this was a special build. The size of the finished model is very impressive and the controls are easy to use. Starting the built with the tracks and base with the motors I found the 1st bag contained a lot of peices. This could have been split up in to smaller bags to save the hours of sorting before the build starts. Bags number 2 is the main body of the It's the same with this, larger number of peices that could have been broken down in to smaller bags. Bags 3 build the main boom arm and bucket functions with the remaining bags 4, and 5 for detailing. This monster of a build has 7 motors and 2 smart hubs that connect to a smart device for pin point controls. While building this kit the instructions ask to test the hub as your building. I found that the app would not connect to the hub if all connections were connected. This was frustrating with the 2nd hub but after figuring out to plug all motors in for the test then it connects fine. I have had issues with the tracked hub where it would get "stuck on" even after closing the control + app and I've had to reset the hub by holding the button for 10secs. The control + app is very easy to use and the one touch, and programmable functionality is really good fun. I would highly recommend this kit for everyone and being a 30 something adult there is nothing like digging up large amount of lego
This Lego set was expensive it took approximately 12 hours to build but it was extremely satisfying in the end to see all its parts move.
I have to say the LEGO Liebherr R 9800 Excavator Technic 42100 build was pretty fun build. It was challenging, but not too challenging where it causes too much frustration. The only slight complaint that it is a bit on the tad expensive side, but being a LEGO fan it's still worth it. I thought I had a missing piece, but found out that I had accidentally started building the last part before I was finish building an earlier section. I guess that is how eager you get to finish the build. This is my second Technic build, but not my last as I bought the Volvo hauler as my next build.
The build is not the most pieces of any set, nor is it the most complex, there were no real problems building it and it was pretty straightforward. The only problem I had was solved when it turns out you ned to have all motors connected to the second hub to test it. This is not in the instructions, but calling support they are aware of it and just plugging the motors in will allow you to test part two. The thing is pretty heavy, the bag of 100 "rocks" is a good touch and it is how the LEGO group is able to claim that this is the largest set by piece count. Those pieces are not in the model unlike the rough terrain crane so I don't count them. When playing with it, make sure to stow the steps and lock them in place, I did not do that originally and caught it in the carpet. The controls are well explained and the app works fine on my phone. The model is very smooth compared to most power functions sets as there are not a lot of complex gears in the boom. The boom and bucket are all moved by linear actuators. The new longer linear actuator is soing to be something to play with in the future. All in all, a nice build, fun and heavy. Lots of replay value. Most of the expense is in the electronics and the license I suspect. But it is really fun to play with.
