I purchased this recently, so glad I did, I could not have asked for more perfection. This model is simply outstanding and definitely for the expert builder. You can build the two towers at the same time but where is the fun in that? I chose to build them separately. As the bags are not numbered it took me about 3 hours to sort the pieces out which was fun. 4,300 pieces is a lot and overall it took me about 12 hours to build. I love the model cars as well. Now for Big Ben to add to my collection.
I built this set about two years ago, but as I recall the bags for pieces were not numbered so this set took quite a bit of space to build in an organized fashion. After finishing, I got some lights and lit it up. That was pretty cool. I am disappointed to see this set us retired now. That's one question I have for Lego, why do they retire products? But anyways this is a good build and I enjoyed it.
I love this set, it is just so large and so realistic. While I did miss having the numbered/ordered lego pieces, it was a new experience of organizing all the pieces beforehand. It turned out in the end to be an impressive build. It is unfortunate that it had been retired by Lego but if you can get it, you won't be disappointed :)
My hubby gave this set as my birthday gift. I decided to build it with my 7Y son and 5Y daughter. The hardest part is definitely the sorting. Once you figured out how to sort in your own way, even two little kids can do most of the work. It took one Stanley sorting box and several lids of plastic storage bins. Also, since I worked with my kids, where to build is important, too. We worked on IKEA "LÄTT Children's table and 2 chairs," you won't accidentally drop any tiny LEGO piece because the edge of the table is slightly higher than the table surface. Believe me, this table and chair set is very good for kiddos to play LEGO. We did it in a casual way, and it took us five days to finish. I would say we played 2-3 hours per day.
At first, I was nervous about building it. When I finally opened up the box and laid out all the pieces, our dining room looked like your local LEGO store. Over the course of 3 days, I built it. Building the two towers was the hardest part. Moving it is kind of a pain, I have to break it into 3 pieces to move it successfully. If you are looking for a new Lego, BUY THIS ONE.
My 9 year old son was given this for Christmas. When buying this from Lego, the friend who gave it to him was told that at his age they thought he might find it too hard. Fail! He had a blast and didn't have any problems with it at all. The only time he slowed down was after the first tower was done he had to go back and start from scratch and do the second tower. No one else was allowed to add a brick to it. Not even his friends that seen it. All in all he had a lot of fun and now wants the Taj Mahal!
Let me start out by saying that this was one of the absolute best Lego sets out there! Some of the features include mini cars, and a working Draw Bridge. To save time while building, organize all the pieces before attempting to build, and build both towers simultaneously. This should decrease the time significantly. It took me roughly 3 hours to organize all the pieces and 10 hours to actually build. The final product comes out to 40" in length and 17" in height. I am using mine as a centerpiece on my coffee table in the formal living room. It wasn't too hard to build either, as I had taken a 10 year hiatus and only recently have gotten back into Lego's as my 5 year old son enjoys playing with them and Legoland: Florida just opened. I recommend this set for any true collector.
I loved this lego set for many reasons. First of all, I love how detailed the towers are, and the drawbridge is really creative and thought through. The only thing I didn't love about it is that sometimes the drawbridge comes off and it can be difficult to put it back. My favorite car is definitely the double dekker bus. I love how on the base it curves on the front and on the back like it does in real life. Overall this set is totally amazing!!! Even though I am younger than 16 it was not a huge challenge for me to put this set together myself. The creative rethinking of certain pieces was really cool, and I love the detail very much!!! Being a detail oriented person it was awesome to see all of these many many pieces come together into something this beautiful and realistic. Thank you LEGO!!! Keep up the good work :)
This was a very fun Lego set to put together. We sorted (and counted) the pieces before we started which helped the construction to go rather smoothly. We were missing 1 piece and Lego.com handled the situation very well. Our missing piece should arrive shortly. This was my Lego project that the kids put together with me, a very fun family project!
Got this for my 7.5 year old son and he started this on Apr 16th. After 9 days he was able to complete it. The pieces are very nice, the windows, towers etc are built to scale. It looks very majestic after it's done. Overall good experience and i have a very happy son who's hungry for more of these kind. In hindsight, i wish i would have bought the Taj Mahal.
