I have a special relationship with rye bread, especially Lewis brand. I begin to salivate when I open the bag and inhale that rye fragrance. Digestion has begun! Lewis brings other advantages. The 1/2 loaf works well for single seniors who don't rely on tea and toast for meals. Also of note, the “best by” date is pretty far out, making less waste. I have begun to sample other Lewis varieties and have been equally impressed.
This is a very nice, milder rut bread and in the half loaf size, perfect unless you like rye so much you'll eat a full loaf. It has a softer texture than regular rye, so it's more like a regular bread that has a rye flavor than a traditional loaf. If you like rye, it's worth at least one try.
Hawaiin Bread is my all time favorite in that it adds a touch of sweetness. I do not eat a lot of bread so these half loafs are perfect for me. Lewis Bakery has been around (here in Evansville) for years. This bread is just as good as the expensive brand. Only complaint that I have is with the Walmart "pickers". This bread is sometimes sold out. In this case, I always list "Lewis Bakery Honey Wheat" as my substitute. The last time it had to be substituted, I used my back-up and the picker got "Lewis Bakery Rye". These two breads are nothing alike. I am old school in that Rye is used for BBQ or Rubens.
I love this bread. The taste is great and it is easy to chew unlike many breads that make you feel you might chock to death trying to get them down. It's a little expensive but all in all it is worth the price. Rye is my favorite bread and this half loaf never disappoints.
A very good option to Rosen's or Beefsteak Rye. While the slices are smaller than the above, it does have a good taste and a light texture. It has seeds in it, but just a little less than Rosen's. It's only a half loaf, but the cost makes it affordable.
This bread is always fresh! It's the perfect amount of servings for someone that doesn't eat bread daily, making it cost effective because you're not throwing moldy bread away. It's also perfect for larger families that need a variety of breads to satisfy every taste bud.
I love the Lewis' loaves of bread . Larger loaves seem to mold or go stale before we can finish them. The smaller loaves of Lewis' is perfect for my household. We love the different varieties. The texture is just right and they are always fresh and delicious.
Whoever thought of half loaves of bread , brilliant. I have been enjoying Lewis Rye half loaves of bread for some time now and really enjoy them. Instead of the birds getting the bread because it became moldie, I am able to eat it myself since it is just me doing the eating.
As a widowed senior citizen, I appreciate Lewis' 1/2 loaf bread. I don't always need a particular brand (sourdough, 12 Grain), but I appreciate the flexibility! The Rye is especially good!
I love this bread and most of the other Half Loafs, but on this order the Rye Bread was already past due. It was dated, best by 01/13/26 but I received it on 01/14/26. I kept it anyway and put it in my freezer. Going forward please check dates before hand. Thank you
