LG OLED evo C3 42 inch 4K Smart TV 2023

My previous TV, a Panasonic LED, died after only 3 years, so I had to get a replacement quite quickly. I had wanted to get and LG OLED back then, but at that time they didn't make them in the size I needed. So, once I discovered LG now had a 42” OLED, it made my decision pretty easy. A lot of people have commented that the OLED screen is dim compared to regular LED with a backlight, but I have to say it doesn't look noticeably more dim than my previous TV. In fact, I needed to turn the brightness down quite a bit for my own personal comfort. My TV is in a well lit lounge area with patio doors that let in a lot of natural light and I've had no problems seeing the picture, even with the brightness turned down to my preference. The picture quality is excellent. 4K is, of course, beautiful. HD is upscaled so well, it looks almost as good as 4K, to my eyes. Even SD gets upscaled impressively, so your favourite old shows don't look quite as old as they might on less capable TVs. Also, the viewing angles are superb. Walking past the TV, the image doesn't change or fade. I can stand anywhere in the room and the picture is perfect. I've read some reviews that describe this TV as being hard to set up, but I had the opposite experience. The TV practically sets itself up. It scans for regular TV channels, it gives you QR codes to scan and link with your streaming services and you're pretty much good to go. Physically assembling the TV is also straightforward, just screw in the stand legs and plug in your cables. There is a recess on the back of the TV where all your sockets such as HDMI and Ethernet are located. This has a cover which is supposed keep all your cables neatly hidden, but the space just isn't big enough hold my two chunky HDMI cables, so I had to leave that off. There's plenty of picture settings, accessed by pressing the cog button on the remote. You should be able to find one that works for you and any changes you need to make can be found in the picture menu of settings. These are the standard settings you'd expect to find on any modern TV and are simple to change. You might find some options greyed out, and it's not obvious why. You need to go into the general section of the settings menu and go down to Energy Saving and turn off Energy Saving Step, this should make more of the greyed out settings available. The remote has come in for some criticism. The idea of navigating by pointing and moving the remote seems great, but in practice it does seem to be more of a gimmick. Fortunately the central wheel and scroll button work well and there no real need to ever use the pointer, but it's always there if you feel like using it. It can occasionally be handy when you want to select something else at the opposite side of the screen, it's much quicker to point to it than click the direction buttons, but that's the only time it's useful. I can't really comment on the sound quality as I have my TV connected to an AV receiver. Reviews suggest a pretty poor sound, but you'd expect that from a small thin TV, there's not many places to hide the speakers. Though I have often wondered why manufacturers don't build speakers into the TV stand. It might make for a bulkier stand, but it would offer better sound out of the box, and if wall mounted, the stand could operate as a basic soundbar (there's an idea for you LG, you can pay me later :-D ). Having said that, I have noticed the sound through my receiver is clearer and I haven't needed to adjust the volume much moving between apps. Even DVDs of old TV shows sound so much better, without the need to turn the volume up so high. One of the main reasons for choosing the TV was it seemed like the best option for my PS5, and the two work together beautifully. Game mode brings up a host of options to tweak until you get everything looking exactly the way you want it. I found it easier, at first, to change the setting in game mode than in other modes. I didn't expect to see much of a difference between this and my previous, relatively new TV, but picture quality and the settings available result in something truly next level. I'd say to anyone with a PS5, if this is in your budget, it's pretty much essential. Although I didn't want to have to buy a new TV, I'm now secretly glad glad my TV died so I could replace it with this beauty. I just hope it lasts a lot longer than 3 years.

Wow the picture is amazing! I bought this to use as a gaming monitor and it looks so much better than the Alienware ones I had and the HDR is the best I've seen. If your wondering wether to go for this as a gaming monitor over the newly coming 4k oled monitors you won't be disappointed and save yourself a few quid.

Straight out of the box, before it was even plugged in and set up, I was struck by how, slim, sleek and lightweight this TV is. The old 32" LCD it was replacing seemed really chunky and overly heavy by comparison. In total, this unit proved only marginally bigger than it's predecessor but the considerable extra screen real estate makes a massive difference. Once everything was in place and turned on, setting it up was pretty simple (although this is my first 'smart' TV, so it's a little more complex than just pressing the power button on a remote) and although I miss the days of a physical manual to flick through rather than accessing a web page/pdf on my phone to search for how to access and tweak various features and the like, you couldn't want for more apps, preferences and setting options for your viewing and audio needs. I've never owned a TV that talks to you before, either! The picture quality is superb in every respect - although results may vary depending on the quality of the source: gaming (via Switch and PlayStation) has never looked so vibrant and sharp, BluRay movies are rich and crisp, and whilst I don't actually own any 4KUHD discs yet, even regular DVDs (via a PS4 Pro) are pleasingly watchable. Digital Freeview on the other hand... well, as I say, results may vary depending on the quality of the source... This TV has got more features, bells and whistles than I know what to do with, but it's proactively compatible with everything I own that can be plugged into it or accessed via WiFi and has more media functionality and streaming apps than I even knew were available in the UK. So far as I can tell, everything just works, and smoothly too. True, I'm still getting used to the interface, but it's definitely got slick baked clean through it. So far, the only downsides are the lack of what would now be classed as "retro" connectivity for component and RGB output devices (HDMI and USB only here) and the fact that I'm still getting used to the surprisingly small (and hyper glossy) remote control, so working out which button to press and then finding it isn't always a speedy process. It's a classy bit of kit and I doubt it'll disappoint anyone who picks one up!

Had our old LG TV for over 10 years. TV technology has come a long way! Bought the TV online from the LG website. Set up of the TV was intuitive. The colours and definition are amazing. Didn't realise how bad our old TV was until we got Oled Evo C3 4K. Loads of new features. Will take time to fully understand the best settings for us. The new remote is fun to use. Would recommend a LG TV.

Early days with this TV but very pleased. Picture quality is superb even from an angle which is important when whole family with us. Very good colour, contrast with excellent blacks, if anything contrast quite dark but can be adjusted using AI picture set up so we now have picture more to our liking. Hi definition is jaw dropping. Set up was not easy as there are no instructions except a few pictures, the downloadable manual offers little more. Basically switch it on and follow instructions but do not rush, opt for the suggested options. We could not get the app to link to TV but did set up eventually following the on screen instructions. We declined the adverts (can opt in later if required) and the final apps menu is very easy to navigate. Post-hoc we have managed to link phone app so we can use phone as a remote. There are no phono R and L sockets to our hi-fi amp so we have plugged in via the headphone socket, there is an optical audio output put need appropriate equipment / amp for this. Remote is very good and not a problem with buttons, pointer function excellent. TV sound good although we use our own amp and speakers. Lots of smart features. Can be linked via wifi or via ethernet cable (preferred). Overall excellent if expensive TV but picture quality is by far the best 42in we viewed so it is an investment.

Very good, natural-looking picture and excellent sound, so that a sound bar is no longer a necessity. The menus system can be rather tortuous e.g. to chose between DVB or satellite inputs requires - '...' -> 'Home settings' -> 'General' -> 'Programmes' -> 'Programme Tuning & Settings' . 4k video is superb, though standard HD perhaps lacks 'bite', even with Sharpness set to maximum. Overall, a very good 4k TV and now very good value.

Quite a complicated TV to operate but you learn as you go. The magic buttons are as the title suggests multi functional and do take some getting used to. At this point I feel there are too many options. The UHD picture when you find the transmissions is very impressive and brings a whole new visual experience but toing and froing between different options on, for example, iPlayer can be a bit tiresome but maybe by the end of Wimbledon I will have mastered it.

Terrible customer service. Deliberately misleading

Having done much research before choosing this TV, I found this one to be the best value for OLED types but that's as good as it got. First time setup was made difficult by rapid voice instructions which I found difficult or impossible to understand. I find the menus counter-intuitive, for example, switching from Freeview to Freesat could be easier if it were part of the Inputs list rather than having to go through the Filters section. I find the dedicated buttons on the remote, for other channels, unhelpful as they come up on the main screen anyway. It would be more useful if things like picture "Information" were a dedicated button (as on my old telly) instead of having to go through two menu layers to get to it. I've also reported a number of issues to LG and carried out their suggestions but without success. They've escalated my case but at the time of writing this review there has been no more communication. Here's a few, 1. Antenna signal test not working 2. Unable to set programme reminders for BBC channels on Freeview: 3. Mini TV not displaying on Freesat: 4. Different sound output to optical device between the settings "Optical Out Device" and "Optical Out Device + TV Speaker". Very disappointing.

Bought this TV on 30 April 2024. It's not cheap and we don't use it heavily. Now 4 months later it has a line of dead pixels down the right hand side. Was going to buy another OLED for my log cabin but I think OLEDs aren't very reliable and hence will be buying a cheaper LED. Very disappointing. Have had an LG fridge freezer for nearly 10 years and it's still going strong. This is well below expectations from LG but when you read TrustPilot, seems LG isn't so good these days. I have booked a repair - I expect a phone call going through all the usual rubbish but this is hardware failure not some setting.
