Messy but worth it

Joyfulmomof6 May 14, 2014

I am in my mid-40's with about 10% gray hair. I have very curly, dry brown hair. My hair has never felt better than after using this product! So soft and shiny, and the covered grays look like subtle highlights and totally natural. I would definitely recommend to mix up the hennas early and let them sit for several hours. I let mine sit for almost 3 hours. It does say in the directions that this will help it all to go faster. It took only 15 minutes for part 1 and 45 for part 2. Do the strand test as recommended. I used a garbage bag clipped around my shoulders to keep my clothes clean. I used a plastic grocery bag clipped around my head to keep from dripping. If you wash your skin off quickly it does not stain your face. If you wipe up where it drips quickly, it does not stain your floor or sink or tub. Use the baking soda as recommended to help get the henna completely out of your hair I only used half a package as my hair is medium length, so I will get 2 or more treatments out of one box. It really wasn't that bad of a process at all. Well worth the little mess to avoid toxic chemicals! The first time I used it, the grays began to come back slowly within a week or two. I called the company, and they instructed me to leave on the Part 2 henna for 2 hours, instead of 45 minutes. I did this, and it was perfect. So if you are having this issue, just leave the Part 2 on for longer and it will be fine. They have great customer service, so if you have trouble, definitely call them first before you give up!

Really colors the grey, makes hair nice

MMM44 February 1, 2015

I began to use Light mountain product about 7 months ago. I noticed it makes my hair thicker and nice. It covers the grey well. I need help applying it and making it as I am disabled. You need a bowl, and a funnel, gloves and plenty of patience. . aside from the mess, you can use this for about 4 treatment s making it areal bargain. It is natural and safe. highly recommend henna unless you are a blond. It works well.

fabulous color

jeni September 5, 2012

This product was a great find. Can't use commercial otc hair dyes anymore due to damage and breakage. Yes, it takes time and commitment to do the process correctly but the result is beautiful color and shine that lasts a long time. Another great product from Swanson!

Coloring that includes everything!

Junie September 8, 2019

This is at least my 7th Henna treatment and I think it performs better than any chemical dye I've ever used in the last 40 yrs of coloring my hair. The product requires 3 plus hours and well worth the time for outcome for me. I use medium brown & now I'm mixing a little light brown to get my hair lighter and somewhat highlights also the instructions have tips of adding ingredients depending on what color you use like cinnamon, nutmeg even old black coffee. There is a strong odor that fades after the second hair washing.

better than expected

stella123 February 11, 2014

Since I had never colored (covered the grey) my hair before, I was a little anxious using this product for the first time. Although it was quite messy, I was extremely pleased with the results. It did a great job covering the grey, and, best of all, no one noticed! Using vaseline to cover skin to prevent staining worked very well. It did not color my scalp. I would highly recommend this SAFE way to cover grey hair.

A sensitive skin product that works

Virgil April 26, 2012

I have sensitive skin and have reacted to other chemical hair dyes and thought I would not be able to use hair dyes. I tried Light Mountain hair dye and was nicely surprised how little skin reaction there was to this hair dye. The hair color was fine and after washing my hair 4-5 times later, their seemed to be very little loss of color. The price of the hair dye was very reasonable. It was messy and confusing to put on at first but I have figured out some shortcuts to make it easier the next time. Such as, I wouldn't use a comb after applying the hair dye for the comb will pull out some of the dye. Wait until you wash your hair first. I recommend this product if you have sensitive skin too.

Natural Triumphs Over Chemical

HalfwayThere October 31, 2010

Due to allergic reactions to chemical hair color, I was desperate for something kinder. Even though it takes an hour longer to use than chemical dyes, and it's messier, still, I WILL be using it again, because it's gorgeous color, and it doesn't hurt my scalp!

Safe way to color grey

Smoocher2 July 22, 2014

This product will cover the grey but be prepared to spend a lot of time. It is very messy to use. It is a two step process. I get a slight greenish tint by my temple area for the first 24 hours and then it oxidizes out. The color lasts for a good 6 - 8 weeks. This has only plant leaves in it and nothing else so you will not be getting dangerous chemicals. I hope the company can improve it someway so it is easier to use.

Worth it

Hobbs March 11, 2011

So, this requires a committment, but if you're into the least toxic route- this is for you. Dark hair dyes are known carcinogens. I just could not do it anymore, however, i am not ready to be grey at 31! This has two steps, and that is key. The first prepares your grey, and the second does the coloring. I didn't expect much, but it did end up working wonderfully! I would suggest setting aside a couple of hours, and also, i wish i had rinsed the second step out a little differently as it is messy and went all over the shower! So, yes more time and effort, but less waste for the landfill, and regarding the mess, the great thing is- it's not a bunch of toxins, perfumes and disgust that is all over. I love that feeling- that I am not harming myself, or others, or the streams and oceans. I put some yogurt in the second step. Basically, my philosophy is if you put it on your skin, you should be able to eat it! well worth the time and effort.

Too much effort for poor results

sissy1 December 11, 2009

After two hours of dying my hair through two processes and multiple times of warming a towel to wrap around my head to keep the stuff warm. Sitting next to the fireplace for the warmth. When all the mess was cleaned up and the hair was rinsed and dryed, the gray was still there and my hair was unevenly colored. Wouldn't use this product again. The instructions were not clear as to how long to leave the second step on and it said until you get the color you want. It was impossible to know what color my hair was undreneath the dark green slime on my hair. This is my second attempt to use this stuff and I have been very dissapointed.
