This is a repeat purchase for the quantity and the quality. With just one cake I was able to knit a complete cap sleeve sweater for the summer in another color. Like it so much I bought 4 cakes in this color. Two cakes are being used to make a crocheted summer coat for a friend and the other two are probably going to get used as a light sweater for me. The yarn is very soft and easy to work with. Doesn't split or untwist which can be a real problem for a left handed knitter or crocheter. Awesome colors, budget cost and conveniently in a cake form. I'll buy it again.
There is MORE than enough for most of your projects! I love the color choices and the way the yarn drapes once I've made my items. The yarn is soft and doesn't irritate my hands the way some yarns can. I have spent over $50 on yarns for a camp sweater that I made for less than $20 with Mandala Bonus and I had yarn LEFT OVER! Definitely my new go-to yarn!
Mandala is no ‘Newcomer' to the Yarn Scene. It started out a high quality yarn %26 still is. The manufacturer has a great team of Color Experts on board so I am always happy with the outcome of my projects. I wish this was a bit softer but Downy in the rinse before blocking will take care of that. I am into my 50th year as an avid Crocheter so I know yarn. You cannot go wrong with any of the Mandala Line of yarns.
I love making items with Mandala yarn and the bonus bundles are so much easier for larger projects! The color changes are easy to work with and the texture is easy on my hands ! I got several different color ways and plan to make different kinds of bags with them! Genie colorway is next on my list!
This is lovely yarn to work with. I was hesitant at first about %233 yarn, but this glides easily over the crochet hook (I'm using a cluster stitch and an H hook, which makes a soft and dense but not heavy finished piece). The color is lovely and creates a nice striped pattern. Very happy with all the Lion Brand yarns I've used!
I love using this yarn for simple shell stitch pattern blankets! The colors are great—I think I've tried them all at this point. Occasionally there are some knots in the cakes, but most don't have any knots.
So with the colors of this yarn, it is expected that it would be used to children or babies and I expected it to be soft. It is not soft at all, it is itchy and stiff. It is a thin yarn yet gets stiff like a rug. Not really happy with it and it has a lot of pill. It cost a lot for it to not be soft at all.
Yarn must be stored open in a warehouse, so it's dirty when you're working with it. Of course you're going to wash the finished project, but it makes the colors look dingy when you're working with it, and it may make your hands dirty. My main issue with the mandala cakes are the random color elements where the dye was added wrong. It's supposed to gradually introduce the new color with the old for a bit of a marled effect, but every mandala cake, bonus bundle or not, I have worked with has these color mistakes. So don't use it for projects that need to look clean. The only other option is to cut out the color mistakes but that defeats the purpose of using a self striping yarn. I'm disappointed with the Babar colors because I ended up with a cake with mostly the grays and the dark blue with only a tiny bit of the greens, which is the reason I got this. That's the problem with buying a mandala cake sight unseen, since each cake is striped differently. At the 9.97 price, it's ok, but I definitely wouldn't pay more than that.
I think that with Mandala yarn that maybe the color is more important than just the color, and what I mean by that is, I think that the processing, the dying of the acrylic also affects the thickness and texture of the yarn. I have happily used Mandela’s Meoww colored yarn, and the quality is wonderful. The yarn is pretty much the same size throughout, all of the colors are soft and squishy. It is very different with this yarn in these colors. The light blue and light gray colors are very plastic feeling and are much thicker than the other colors of the yarn. They’re also stiffer. It is making the project that I am working on somewhat challenging because I need the same thickness and I’m not getting it. I think if one was just doing something striped that maybe it wouldn’t matter quite as much but that’s not what I’m working on and so this is a problem. I don’t think I would ever buy this particular color again and will be much more careful in making purchases in future with Mandala.
I ordered this from Walmart along with two other cakes. I never got two of them because, once again, the 'driver' never delivered them. They were 7 mins or whatever from my house when the 'driver' said he/she had a family emergency and returned my purchase to the store. This is the 3rd time I"ve gone through this nonsense and then I have to chase Walmart for a refund. I got this cake because it came from an outside seller. I will never order from WalWORTHLESS again.
