I have a system that I purchased a few years ago from 4Patriots. Noticing that the solar panel said Lion Energy and the cables appeared the same, I bought the second panel from your company directly. It works as expected, and the carry case is a big plus
I purchased the expansion battery for my Safari, and started having charging issues after about 4 months. Luckily, I live near the facility and was able to drop it off for them to look at. It turns out a board had gone bad in it. They had it fixed and fully charged for me to pick up the next day! Keep up the good work.
I decided to expand my solar panel capacity and ordered this 3rd 100W panel. It arrived promptly and when I attached it to my generator (on a sunny day), it immediately began charging. Good quality and reliability. Prompt delivery (after hurricane season).
This panel is well made and easy to use. I like that it comes with a protective carry case, since it will mostly be in storage. Although it is rated for 100w, be aware that it depends a lot on how much sun hits it. I had to keep moving mine, but I got up to 98 w. I bought two to cut the charge time in half.
I prefer the way the old style was built. It was made more heavy duty. I have 5 of them. I could only afford 5 at the time I purchase the ME Solar Generator and battery add on. So I wanted to get the 6th one to ramp up charging time. I see the new one is marked light weight even. To be honest it looks flimsy. Even the handle. I didn't see an option to purchase the older style, And had no indication the design had changed since the last purchase mentioned on the website. Personally, from a prepared mindset I think a person's gear should be made as heavy duty as possible, cos in the upcoming crisis, there might not be an opportunity to re-supply in the future, and what you have is all you will have.
I had purchased the Safari and XT with two panels. I expected limited use, but it worked so well we use it much more than anticipated. Being in Arizona we have plenty of sunshine. Adding panels is super easy.
Learning - due to energy loss within the solar panel wiring you will need 3 - 100 watt panels on a sunny day to achieve 150+ watts of charging power for the summit power bank. With 2 - 100watt panels on a sunny Florida afternoon with no clouds I have only been able to achieve / produce 142 watts of charging power while both panels are connected. Not what I was expecting
This is a well built product coming with a cable and adapter. No questions to quality but it is missing some important feature - diode to prevent a current float backwards when not enough sun. I have to buy a controller... I have tried this product for 45 minutes on the full sun at 4pm EST in October trying to get at least 1% of charge on my 135W Li battery and it did not charge even 1%.... Not sure why.... It was pointed 90 degree to the sun on the roof of my car. I hope it will work next summer. How long it will take to charge 135W? 1 month? 2 months? I will test.
I bought a kit that included the original 100W solar panel and it worked well. After about a year I decided to buy another. This "new" version of the "100 Watt" panel is a piece of cheaply made junk. The velcro does not touch when the unit is folded up and it will therefore not remain folded the way the original unit would with the built in latches. Aside from the trade down in functional design, this new "100W" panel also significantly performs the older original 100 Watt panel even though the original panel has a full year of use on it. In a side by side comparison, this 100W LW panel was pulling 68 Watts of input power at peak sun while the original 100 Watt version pulled 92 Watts when set up side by side. Based on this comparative experience, I am very disappointed in Lion Energy for representing a new product as an upgrade when it is clear that they have taken a step back and put it on their marketing team to dox potential buyers with fancy descriptions. I am strongly considering returning the second kit with the 100W LW panel back to Costco for a full refund. Way to turn a brand against yourselves guys.
The previous version of the solar panel was a much better design. The two locking mechanisms, adjustable support angle feet, overall construction is lacking on this new version. The carrying case on the previous model is also superior. The model change was a fail/step back!
