I love Litehouse seasonings. I wish Walmart had a wider selection of them in the store. I use the freeze dried chives all the time and get them at my local store. However, I had to order these freeze dried onions from a 3rd party. I didn't have any issues with the order and delivery, but I'd still rather be able to find them on the shelves in my local store. These onions are easy to rehydrate and are delicious in soups and steamed veggies.
We have used these dried onions in my family potato salad for years. They are the secret ingredient. It works great for those who just don't like the texture of onions but like the flavor.
Creativity is the key to successful cooking. Dehydrated doesn't rot and get thrown away.
I love cooking with onion, especially red onions. I do not always have time to chop them up when I need them. This product is right up my alley.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love fresh herbs, but unless you grow them, it can get expensive and time-consuming to keep on hand, and I've probably thrown more away than I've used. With the Litehouse dried herbs, you get the color and flavor of fresh, but in a convenient, shelf-stable dry form. I got the red onions and the ginger, two things I use quite a bit, but never seem to have on hand. I think they may be freeze-dried, because they both rehydrate beautifully, and they really add that extra something that takes a dish from good to great. I plan on buying the whole line, so please make more varieties!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was amazed that the herbs look like after I prep them for cooking...the colors are vivid, the pieces are how you would use the ingredients, minced size garlic and ginger, small chopped red onion, stripped thyme, etc., they do not appear dull or colorless like other herb brands. Not having to chop, strip or mince herbs was a huge time saver and interestingly the freeze dried herbs seem to incorporate well into dishes. I also love the variety of flavors, things like red onion and chives. I have difficulty using a full red onion when it's fresh so I particularly appreciated this flavor and opted to try it but i did struggle with the decision as thwre were so many great options. I added to stor fry and it was goos but was equally excired to see it incorporated well into my tuna melt, so I am thrilled to have this as an option when I can't find red onions or just need a little amount. I have got ro get the garlic one next, cleaning the garlic press is such a pain!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It's super convenient and time saving. No hassle of having to chop up onions and having your eyes burn. Freeze dried also means no dripping mess like with minced onions. Only issue I had is it added nothing to the flavor of food.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just used the freeze dried onion for the first time in a pasta dish I was making. I typically would go to the store, especially to buy just an onion to add to my sauce, but I decided to try this instead. It definitely flavored in a similar way that an onion does. It was tasty and extremely convenient.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Most spices are just ground up with the color all darkened or muted. This looked so good as cubes and even the red color is still vibrant. Lovely addition to my cooking. Also I've never seen red onion as a dried spice !
