This bucket definitely lives up to its name. This is the go-to bucket to take with us on the road. It is fabulous as a water bucket and also works great as a feed bucket. I don't need to worry about eyeballs being poked or smashed by the bucket handles, as their faces fit perfectly into the bucket. Our oldest bucket is around 8 years old at this point and has proven to be extremely durable. It has even withstood our weanling kicking it around at feed time! Highly recommend!
My large quarter horse gelding likes to lose grain as he's eating, and then eats it off the ground, getting dirt, shavings, etc with it. I decided to give this bucket a try, since it's large enough for his head, and has tall sides. It has ended our grain to ground problem. I have ordered more for my other horses.
Great price for a great bucket! My horse would tear regular flat-backed buckets off the walls and flip feed pans...either way, he was eating off the ground! Knowing that all the dirt he was eating along with the loss of supplements in his feed was not benefiting my horse's health, I HAD to find a solution! This bucket makes my horse look like a very calm eater, hasn't even tried to flip it. He now eats all of his food IN the bucket, saving me money in supplements! Thanks, SmartPak!
We got these buckets about 3 weeks ago and love them. We have a draft, a Percheron cross, and a thoroughbred/quarter horse cross. The reason for getting then is the draft choked twice in the same week so we had to elevate his feed. The large buckets we had were just too small for him. The better bucket is perfect! In fact, we think all three of them enjoy this wide open bucket for their grains. We notice less spillage. Highly recommend the better bucket!
I bought this for my horses feed buckets. I was using regular round water buckets, but both my horses would lift their heads out after a bite and drop half their grain on the floor. This bucket is so roomy with a sloped front. They both now keep their heads in their grain buckets until it's all gone. No more wasted grain!
My 15 year young horse absolutely loves this bucket! We've only had it a few days and what a big difference! No more swinging bucket or his head getting stuck in it. Just wish it came in a different color.
I ordered 3 of these and I will be ordering one for every stall. This is a great design and well made, heavy duty. The horses are able to easily get to their food and seem to waste less I have automatic feeders for grain that drop into these large buckets I can easily remove them for cleaning Best feed buckets I have ever found!
When the box with this bucket came, it was about the size of a saddle. When I opened the box and saw the bucket, I hated it. This bucket is huge. Huge. The real estate in my horse's stall is not huge, so I put the bucket back in the box and grabbed the paperwork for returns. Not free. So for the 16 bucks I thought I could turn it into a planter. But before I did that, I decided to give it a try. I usually feed my horse his grain in the morning in a flat pan in his hay feeder. I mix the grain (& his SmartPaks) with water and it used to go everywhere. On the walls, on the floor and it made a big mess in his feeder & water bucket. Once a week I had to drag the feeder out of the stall and wash it out. I hung this bucket on a hook next to his feeder so that it touched the floor. Because of the slopped sides he could get his whole head into it, and the tall sides made sure almost all his grain stayed in the bucket and ultimately stayed in him. I leave the bucket there so he can finish all of his grain and when I get back in the afternoon I take the bucket off the wall, rinse it out and start all over the next day. So much easier than dragging out the feeder to clean and dry in the sun. The bucket does take up a lot of space but I think it's better for my horse and easier for me. I love this bucket. It is really a better bucket.
This Better Bucket is a great bucket, and I had already found several at my local feed store... I was looking for one more to round out my collection, and wondered if SmartPak carried them. When I found this one, and so reasonably priced, I was delighted! However, it is only offered in the 20-quart size (at least at the time of my purchase), and that is way too big for a normal horse. Possibly appropriate for a big draft; I can't use it, and it doesn't qualify for a free return. So make sure and verify that it is the size of bucket you want. It's perfectly lovely in all other respects, and the price is very competitive. I do hope they start to carry the 10-quart size in the future...
I have purchased 6 of these for my 3 horses. THe bucket is not durable and every single one of them cracks in the back and it is a downhill slide from there. Stick to the big round buckets. It is a great idea but needs to be made of much more durable plastic.
