Lodge cast iron products are great! They contain no plastic or chemicals and come in a wide array of colors. Be careful with the enamel products because they can chip if mishandled. They are heavy, but if you're ok with that, no problem. Otherwise, super product. Highly recommended.
Packed well ..pot had 6 anti scratch clips so that lid would not scratch and also lid was packed in cardboard so that would not scratch. Beautiful blue color as pictured on website. I purchased this smaller size to accomadate roasts and ribs for 2 people ..size is perfect and could still make bigger roast for 3 or 4 people..the only thing wrong is that it still weighs a lot..11lbs..my last one weighed 13lbs..I'm getting older and having trouble lifting out of oven..although my husband is the one that lifts heavy items now….anyway..I LOVE this dutch oven pot and would recommend it for purchase .
Lodge enameled cast iron arrived securely packaged and on time. The pot is absolutely beautiful. I love the color and The size is perfect for my needs.
Love my 4.5 qt Lodge cast iron dutch oven. Quality made. I use it for making baked beans (will work with 2 lbs beans) beef roast, beef stew, sweet n sour pork ribs and even baking artisan bread. The inside will darken with use but still work fine. Soak and use a plastic scrubby to clean. Handle gently and use the rubber bumpers to prevent chips. Should last years, mine has.
The Lodge Dutch Oven would add to the décor of any kitchen. I purchased the blue Dutch Oven, which was just as pictured. It is absolutely beautiful. I plan to leave this out as it adds such beauty to my kitchen. However, I requested additional "rubber bumpers" to prevent the item from being damaged when it is necessary to store the product. I received the requested bumpers immediately from Lodge's Customer Service (EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE). I would highly recommend the purchasing of any Lodge products based on the quality of their products as well as their Customer Service! I feel you will not be disappointed and plan to buy more of their products myself.
I have many Lodge cast iron skillets and pots. Because I make a lot of caramel, I wanted an enameled pot for even heat distribution and consistency in cooking, as well as one that would not transfer flavors to other dishes. Now that I've made several batches of caramel, I am so pleased with this Dutch oven. It's beautiful, well-made and although Lodge's enameled cookware is not made in the US, the rest of their products are. This is exactly what I had hoped for.
After researching healthiest cookware I found that stainless steel (18/20) and cast iron were recommended. I needed a nonstick option and these were an affordable option to Le creuset. The pots are beautiful and I love them. The only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is because of their weight. They are extremely heavy. So if you have arthritis, any sort of arm or hand issues these larger pots are not for you. Consider something lighter weight than the cast iron. My husband complained that he can't lift or tilt the pot with one hand while cooking. Not sure how much of an issue that is for people. If you drop the top on your stovetop (I have a flattop) it could cause significant damage. I also had trouble storing them in the cabinet down low because of their weight. But they are pretty enough to sit on top of the stove. They are very easy to clean.
i chose 4.5QT because the popular 6-QT one is too big. this size is good for me. The pot looks nice, well made. but it's too heavy, i guess due to it's made by iron.
After the first use the enamel changed its color to pink-brownish. When I contacted the company, I was told that some foods can stain the enamel and I should use backing powder or even bleach to make it white again. But my other pot from a different company didn't change its color. It makes me think that the coating is either very thin or the quality overall is poor. I used backing powder, it didn't help.
I ordered this Lodge 4.5 quart dutch oven through Walmart because they offered a much lower price than anywhere else. Big mistake. The first one came with a sizeable chip along the rim where the enamel meets the cast iron. I re-ordered the item and the second one came with a chip on the lid and several defects in the cast iron that the manufacturer tried to cover up with enamel. I have other dutch ovens made by Lodge that are in perfect condition, so I'm well aware of the difference. These dutch ovens from Walmart are, obviously, factory seconds - thus the cheap pricing. Needless to say, I returned the second one and will not try again.
