An excellent cookware. It requires very little maintenance. It cooks evenly whether on top of the stove or in it. The Dutch oven is non stick as long as you apply a little butter or vegetable oil. or cooking spray. The one thing I would highly recommend is never use metal utensils in it. The enamel glass finish will be damaged over time and everything will begin to stick. A lesson I had to learn the hard way .
I use this primarily for bread baking and it has changed my game! Love it. I thought the size might be too big but it has worked great and the quality and color are unbeatable for the price. Get one !
I saw this pot on sale at local wal mart for 15$ and bought it right away knowing the value. I absolutely love using it!! My only concern is how durable the enamel is on it. i have used many other cast iron pans and love the way they cook. This one cooks food evenly and at lower temps wich is great. It heats up rather quickly so be careful. Noticed that handle on lid is just screwed in but haven't had any problems with this yet. My boyfriend and i had looked a other more expensive brand but fell in love with this one.
Love this cooking pot. Cooks with even heat distribution (I have an electric cooktop), everything from stews to chicken picata comes out thick and robust. The lid fits tight so juices stay inside. Cleans easily. Great value that is very versatile. It is heavy, but that is what makes it so great. It should be stored with small rubber attachments so lid doesn't chip pot.
We have always like our Lodge cast iron pans. WE have had them for years. Using them inside and outside. When the enameled cast iron came out we bought 2, a red 3.5 quart and an red oval one. We used them all the time. So when we decided to go for a larger pan and we wanted an enamel one. I wanted another red one but after seeing some cooking shows I ordered a green one. I love it. we have used it at least 2 times a week for soups, chili, pot roast. It works beautifully. From oven to burners. I am careful because in the past the enamel has chipped. So I am careful with putting the top on and off and placing it on the shelf. I give it a ten.
Very quick delivery. Made chicken soup and rice pudding; great for even heat - simmering and clean up was a snap. This is going to be used often in my kitchen. This item if taken care of will be something you can pass down to the next generation because of its great craftmanship and color (I bought the blue one). Finally, for a 6 qt. the price was fantastic!
I would give this purchase a 10 star rating if I could. I found this Lodge Dutch Oven during Walmart Days by accident. Delivery was delayed due to weather. Some enameled Dutch ovens don't like tomatoes. The tomatoes sink to the bottom and scorch. This Dutch oven loves tomatoes. It is a heavier Dutch oven compared to other brands. Well constructed. Build to last with a life time warranty with the original owner. Fall/winter is coming. Looking forward to cooking roasts, stews and soups.
I've had this pan for about a month and it meets all my expectations so far...very well made, cooks beautifully. Had another brand that the inside enamel crazed after several months use; this brand has much better enameling and am very hopeful it will withstand the test of time. Came highly recommended by a well known TV test kitchen.
I've used this several times already. It's a very good dutch oven. Cleans up easily and cooks very evenly. Can use on the stovetop or in the oven. I think we will be using it for years to come. The only one very minor negative I've found is that the bottom is rounded and not as straight sided as some of the more pricier ones which makes the bottom surface area not as big as I was expecting- For example: It can brown about 3 chicken breasts at one time. I doubt it would fit a whole beef tenderloin. It's not a huge problem for me though. We got it in the purple and it looks great. All in all a good product!
In a side by side comparison the The Lodge's capacity is 6 qt vs Le Creuset 6-3/4 qt. Lodges porcelain finish is not as smooth, it has more orange peel compared to Le Creuset both inside and out. Both have fairly large handles and I actually preferred the handles on the Lodge compared to the Le Creuset a little more room for larger hands. Le Creuset had straighter sides which added a little more cooking surface on the bottom of the pot compared to the Lodge which had a more curved side reducing the overall cooking surface slightly so you may have to sear more batches. The Lodge Dutch oven had a more domed lid compared to the Le Creuset which had a flatter lid. The Le Creuset gives you a little edge in overall height if your oven is tight on space. As you can tell from my comparison it was more nit picking then anything else when comparing the two. While the Lodge is not a Le Creuset in it's fit and finish it is also 5 times less expensive and performs just as well in my opinion. You can't go wrong with the Lodge porcelain enamel dutch oven.
