As will all Login products it is a great cutter..... .. I can not use this cutter with my Logan 750 mat board cutter... I need to purchase the next model up....If you are cutting mats BY HAND .. and want to use a ruler that you are holding in one hand and this mat cutter in the other then this is the right one for you!
After a bit of practicing (5 minutes) I felt pretty confident with this gadget. As long as you've got a firm grasp on your straight edge, it cuts like a dream. Looks like a professionally cut mat!
Great buy! I needed a custom mat for a watercolor painting a friend gave me. The prices at framing stores were obscene! Even Michael's charged an arm and a leg for it. So I decided to buy this mat cutter and try my hand at it. My first cut didn't turn out great, but once you get the hang of it, it's a breeze and at the end it looks like a professional cut. So happy I got this! I highly recommend it! TIP: Start your cut slightly beyond the start-and-stop mark, and end it slightly before it, to avoid overcuts (it worked for me).
Works great. A little bit of practice and you will have professional results.
I have used a Dexter mat cutter for the past thirty years, so this was a welcomed change for me. Easy to use. Easy on the hands. Easy to correct the smallest details.
I bought this item to use in model making for my model railroad; I needed something to cut the edges of walls at 45 degrees. Unfortunately, the angle is not 45 degrees. Other than that, it's a great tool; it really works great for cutting mat board.
I watched someone cut frame mats with this via YouTube prior to purchasing it. She seemed to be able to work the tool with ease, but I suspect that she's had practice. The tool is smaller than I anticipated, and requires a very stable, fixed ruler to avoid any slippage when cutting. I used blue painter's tape to steady a metal ruler on the mat and large cutting board. It's easy to understand why one might invest a lot more in a formal mat-cutting system, especially if you want to do LOTS of mats. Otherwise, this one does the job. Its price probably ought to be about 14.95 instead of almost 20. The picture online showed a black tool. The one I received was white, but appears to be the correct model, nonetheless.
With a little practice I had gotten fast and accurate with mine. It was my first foray into cutting my own mats. Buy extra blades, and change them frequently for clean cuts. I had to upgrade to another Logan product due to the amount of mats I was cutting, but if you are just getting into it or don't need it that often, this is a great option!
