I think it's fair to say that this mouse, the G502X, is beyond a doubt the best mouse I have ever used, bar none, no exception. So here's why, starting with the most obvious thing: styling. It's cool to look at. Make no mistake, this is not the most important part of a mouse; functionality is more important. We'll get to the functionality piece in a second, but for now, just know that this is a beautiful mouse. This is a work of art.
The RGB LED strip, the way it communicates what mode it's in using colors... I mean, it really is just masterful in design craft. Absolutely perfect. But the more important thing, of course, is functionality.
First things first, the primary switches for the primary and secondary buttons are, in my opinion, the perfect balance of lightweight and heavy. I've had mice that are actually lighter, and whose buttons are actually lighter, and I would just accidentally click all the time. Then again, I have pretty serious RSI, so I was looking for something with very, very low resistance in the first place, and my hand still doesn't get tired on this mouse, at least not nearly as fast as with a lot of other mice.
Of course, from a gaming perspective, the multiple ways to switch DPI make this quite appealing for all kinds of games. The thumb shortcut, being able to drop down into a lower sensitivity for just the period that you're holding it down, that is brilliant.
The only thing that this mouse lacks, compared to my other favorite G mice, is a dynamic scroll wheel. This one has the switch between the clicky scroll wheel and the spinny scroll wheel, but for me, I actually don't use this for gaming most of the time. I just use it as a high-fidelity mouse for day-to-day tasks, and I'd rather have a scroll wheel that, when you're scrolling slowly, will click, and when you're scrolling quickly, will spin freely. That's my favorite one. I forgot what that was called, but that's my favorite scroll wheel.
Oh, and then there's the fact that the response rate is so high. I mean, I would love for it to be even higher, because I have a monitor that can actually handle that, but just the feel of this mouse, truly, just sitting down and moving it on the screen, is so smooth. It's so nice. It's so clean.
It really wasn't until I discovered high-refresh monitors and high-refresh mice that I realized there really is a difference between the feel of a computer when it's sluggish and laggy, versus 240 Hz monitors and sub-millisecond mouse update times. Truly, I have gone through a dozen-plus mice of various quality, prices, and features, and this is actually the only mouse that has every single feature, except for that scroll wheel. Of course like I said, it's just the prettiest mouse I own.
Yeah, other than it being expensive for most people, and I'm a hobbyist, so I can afford it, and that doesn't stop me, this mouse is perfect.
