This device does many things, most of them quite well. There are, however, some things that it has difficulty with that make it a marginal recommendation. All of the different "modes" can be selected on the front of the unit.
There is a small display window on the front, which shows the current time digitally (after you set it). When the unit is powered on, that window shows mode, volume level, track number, running time, etc.
Phono:
It plays all vinyls as expected at all speeds (33, 45, 78). Yes, I still have a few 78s. The platter begins spinning when the tone arm is moved into position, and the lift lever functions as it should. There is a spare cartridge with stylus included in the package, which is a nice touch.
CD:
The CD drawer opens and closes with a touch of a button on the front of the unit, and the CD begins to play when it is recognized. The track number and running time of each track is displayed in the small display window. No obvious problems here.
Bluetooth:
Connected very quickly from my iPhone and played flawlessly.
Record to USB:
After connecting to Bluetooth, I plugged a USB flash drive into the front of the device and then began playing a selection of tunes from my iPhone. Recording to the drive was as simple as pressing the REC button on the device, then pressing STOP when finished. It records a single MP3 file, even if you played a number of music tracks. It did not disturb the MP3 files that were already recorded on the drive. The recorded file showed up with the name RECORD when I plugged the drive into my computer. I then played a record and was able to record those tracks in much the same way. I did not attempt to record to microSD.
AM/FM:
This has analog tuning, with a big AM/FM tuning knob that is rather sensitive, so turn the knob slowly. AM and FM stations came in very well; I didn't even have to extend the included FM antenna.
RCA out:
It works, but audio will be heard from both sets of speakers.
The remote control:
Ah, here's what keeps this from a higher rating. It looks nice, with buttons that should give mostly complete control of the device. But pressing its buttons often, even usually, gives the wrong result. After playing a CD, removing it, and closing the drawer, I pressed the power button on the remote to shut the unit off. It didn't - instead it opened the CD drawer again. I pressed the power button again and it shut off, but with the drawer still hanging open. Had to power on again to shut the drawer. While playing the CD, I tried to adjust the volume with the remote. It paused playback, then allowed me to adjust volume. The remote has an equalizer (of sorts). Pressing that caused the device to switch to a different mode. Many other unexpected things happened while using the remote. I decided maybe to just ignore the remote, but that's inconvenient. If the remote is important to you, this may not be for you. I'm still undecided on whether to keep it or return it.
