Like the title reads, "quality ONE SEASON luminarias," these are well-made units for one season only. I have these out on my front porch year-round....faded, but still in great shape. However, one cannot expect to refold these as they become brittle very quickly. If you can store them as is, then fine,; otherwise they are throw-aways. While the light strings are very well made, I wish I could purchase just the "bags." Have tried to no avail. Oh.......and if you want these to be even more like the candles-in-the-bag, install a dimmer after the plug, and before the first bulb. Just cut one of the two wires, strip the insulation, then attach a light dimmer, tape with electrical tape.........makes these more realistic. Enjoy!
The plastic has a heavy weight, stands up well to the weather, and wipes clean easily. One of forty bags cracked along a seam, and that was easily taped. The bulbs are a warm white. All four corners have cutouts for stakes, although only one stake is issued per bag. There is no room at the bottom of the bag to stabilize it with sand because the electric line is on the ground and the bulb bases are the usual height. Rocks placed in the bags to hold them down throw shadows. I would recommend watering the lawn before staking because the stake needs to go in about five inches to be effective. I will purchase four straight metal tent pegs per bag for next season because these plastic ones have indentations at the tips that can tear the bag upon removal, especially when the bags are cold. When these light strings no longer work, I'll replace them with LEDs. With good care I expect the bags to last a long time.
These are wonderful! We got two sets. They were easy to put together and much cheaper than many other places for the same product. We put them on an adobe wall - my husband made 'holders' out of wood, which were inverted U shapes. We placed the luminaria at a right angle to the bottom of the U (upside down) and used a small wood screw to secure the luminaria to the wood, then slipped over the wall. They have stood up to wind and look terrific.
These luminaria are a great way to light up an area. They have a green cord that allow for equal spacing between luminarias. One advantage of the electrical luminarias is they are all connected together. There was some heavy winds here the other day, and a couple of the luminarias got loose from the stake. The cord connecting the luminarias together kept me from losing luminarias. I would consider one add on to these lights, some additional weight to the bottom of the bag. The bag is plastic so it's rather sturdy but I think a small sand bag or small brick in the bottom of the bag would be a great way to add stability to the lights. The light bulb enters the bag from one side. I feel this is a good way of putting the lights into the bag since entering from the bottom may present an electrical hazard with rain or snow. The small stake that comes with the lights are okay but don't hold up to wind too well. A spiral stake or additional weight in the bottom of the bag is needed if your area receives any wind of 10 mph or more. Overall these luminarias are a great affordable light. I am using 4 sets of lights with excellent results.
We bought 2 sets of these 4 years ago when we put in a paver sidewalk to the street. The lights are placed alongside the pavers, in the gravel. The first year there was a windy night and the almost useless stakes provided didn't hold many of the bags down but I didn't lose any since they were connected. I went to the hardware store the next day to look for better stakes but they didn't have any. A cheaper solution? 6" nails and 1" washers. Together they hold the luminaries down perfectly. This year I noticed that two bags have cracked so I will buy another set. BTW-if you want to put them onto a hard surface like cement or a wall, try a hot glue gun.
This worked out perfect.... Loved my yard this year
I bought these to replace a different type that I already had used for a number of years. These are a good price. They were easy to put together and set up. They look great around my drive. The second day after I had put them all out using the stakes that came with the kit was a very rainy, windy day. I quickly found out that I had to have something to weight them down besides the stakes. I used white landscaping rocks and have had no more problems.
Product OK. Not very stable in wind.
The lights attach by poking through the back of the bag, several inches from the ground. This leaves the luminarias unsteady and with green wire stringing along a few inches above the ground. The bags are a flexible plastic and there is no plastic support piece at the base of the bag. It's just folded over like a grocery bag. These were less expensive for a reason - just couldn't see them working for us. We are returning them.
Very disappointed in this product. They looked fine when put them up but the bags cracked very easily during installation even though we were careful with them. I suspect they're not intended to be used in cooler temperatures even though there's no warning from the manufacturer about this. They're meant to be used during Christmas so that would exclude a lot of sales. We set them up outside when it was in the high 30's and even though many survived setup, a large number failed in the wind after only a day. We had to take them all down, re-package them and return them. Very disappointing.
