I've had a smart home for a very long time but the biggest difference is when I switched from no-name switches and dimmers to Lutron Caseta. Yes, they have an application for controlling these devices but I almost always use Alexa or timers\motion sensors to get lights on. This dimmer is great because you can tell how high the brightness level is right on the switch.
Recently Purchased a Smart Home and these were installed in every room accept the bathrooms which is the only light in my house that I forget to turn off when I am rushing out the door for work. As such I brought one for each bathroom. The assembly was supper easy and Lutron has a youtube videos you can watch to demonstrate how to install these on different light types. The first one took me about 10mins to install mostly due to fear of being electrocuted but the second one was installed in less than 5mins. So far they work great with no major issues except ghosting in my smaller bathroom. My smaller bathroom only one light and that light was sensitive to current. The Lutron site told me I needed bulbs that required higher current (more than 10W) to function. The ones I had were Phillips and only needed 7W. Once I swapped the bulbs the ghosting went away. Also I noticed the higher W bulbs tended to be cheaper so thats another win :-).
I have multi gang boxes that are too crowded to fit the switches. Moving the main switch to the other end of a 3way and using a Pico removes the wiring congestion. In the kitchen i needed to add an outlet to the existing 4 Gang box surround by tille again i took one of the 3 way circuits and moved the main to the other end of the circuit installed a 5 gang faceplate i added the outlet and used a pico into the extra opening or having to do any work that traditionally would have required cutting tile removing the 4 gang outlet box to install a 5 gang outlet. Reducing a 5 hr or so project into a 45 min project with zero cleanup. Using your imagination the Caseta/Pico features you can retrofit on old house to a 100% modern concept. Oh and using the Bridge everything is 100% voice controlled both locally or from anywhere in the world i the internet acess..
Switched over to smart switches from smart bulbs because of the limitations associated with turning the power off at the switch. Lutron is gold standard and it's because they use a hub instead of on board WiFi. Trust me when I say a hub is the way to go for light switches.
Control the lights with your phone! You can also make any light a 3-way light by adding the remote to any location you choose. Way easier than rewiring your home. Set up schedules or location services to automatically turn on lights when you get home. Works with incandescent and LED lights. It will require a Lutron hub to connect with the internet for smart home functions but, if you are just using it as a switch, no hub is needed.
Easy to install. A common wire is required (I had ghosting ). Recommend when common wire is needed
Excellent product both functionally and aesthetically. Have these all over my house connected through WinkHub2. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Absolutely perfect! Looks great. Works very well. We used this for a switch that didn't dim before and it's amazing! Installation took only a couple minutes and it works with our Alexa devices.
Easy install; really nice how it dims down when you turn it off and gradually brightens when you turn it on
I've been using Caseta Smart Dimmer Switches for a several years. Since I have some health issues it has simplified turning lights & fans on/off. Some people think flipping a switch or pushing a button is easy (I did at one time) until one has various health issues. One problem that I've encountered is that I have two switches in my kitchen, one for the ceiling lights and the other for the island lights. When I have Siri turn off one set of lights they both get turned off. I had to add Kitchen B and use that to differentiate between the two set of lights.
