Ordered towels and hand towels. They are nice. But can't get matching wash cloths they are out

This was a present for a little boy who wanted purple things for Christmas. I examined it carefully. I did notice that the color was a less vibrant purple than the picture, but - it was good enough. Removing one of the two towels from the bag, I noticed it was not as full as I expected - but again, it's for a toddler who would be fine with it. It felt soft - good. It did not seem excessively linty, which I noticed was a big complaint with many towels purchased online. OK, good to go. So, since it said it should be washed before first using it, and I wanted it to be ready to use, I washed it. One towel came out ok. The other one had one long, stringy edge that had pulled away from the rest of the towel, and a smaller one next to it. Essentially, one washing had turned it into a rag that I wouldn't even want for myself, much less give as a gift. At least I discovered its poor quality before giving it to my grandson.
