The Mainstays Trash Cans, 13 Gallon, Red work beautifully. I have a black one in my kitchen that I have had for years and the red one works just as well. They are durable and made to last and having the lid with the covered opening works well to keep odors at bay until the trash is taken out. They are simple but do the job intended. The only con I have noticed is if the trash gets stuffed too full (ex. your son continues to push it down and add more to it) the lid will stick but the easy way to fix that is do not let it get overly full.
This Mainstays 13 gallon trash can, made of a very sturdy and durable plastic is great for the average kitchen. I got the black one that goes with my black and stainless steel appliances but they do come in a few different colors to match most any décor. They even have a bolder red color if you like. I am used to a flip up top trash can but this one has a swivel lid which I love. I used to keep the top off of my flip up top trash can so I could get the dripping trash in there quick without having to actually lift the lid. Now I don't have to worry about that since the lid swivels. This will also allow me to keep the top on it and keep down the smells that trash can create. I have even thought about not using it as a trash can at all. I think it would make a great dirty clothes hamper. You can keep the swivel lid on it or take the lid off of it for larger dirty laundry. Either way, it would take up less space since it would be in an upright position. The only down fall to that would be that it doesn't have handles. I'm sure you can think of other uses if you want but it makes a great trash can for which it was intended.
This is your basic kitchen trash can. Not really anything glorious about it. No bells or whistles just a simple trash can. The plastic is easy to wipe down which is good with kids who throw away stuff and drip it all over the trash can. Especially the swinging door. Some of the smaller kitchen do not fit on this. I had a hard time with the trash bags with handles, I had to really stretch the bag and it wouldn't fit because of the handles. A stretchy trash bag would work best. I like the swinging door, definitely keeps the odor inside the trash can. I like that this is light weight because if the bag leaks it's super easy to just take the trash can outside and rinse it with the garden hose.
These mainstay trash cans are very durable. I actually got them so my sons could store their toys in them. I thought they would put toys away better if they could put them into the trash can lid. And it worked! I will be getting more of these soon for other areas in the house. I do like trash cans with lids. Because it seems to keep the smell to a minimum. These cans are pretty light weight also.
I like placing several wastebaskets around my house, especially with so many kids. I only like wastebaskets with lids because every summer we have an issue with gnats and the trash is the reason why. I thought these would be perfect but they have a gap on both sides that gives easy access to any flying insect that likes trash. For that reason I will only be using these for disposal of things like paper, packaging, etc. It was a double pack so one is in my girl's room and the other one I haven't figured out where it'll go just yet. I really wanted it for my kitchen but those gaps won't work for me in the summer. I do think the quality is there. My issue with gnats is a personal one so I would say it's a good wastebasket and it has a nice gray color. I need my trash to be completely covered so this one will not work for me until winter but it is still a good wastebasket so if you don't have that seasonal issue like me, I'd say go for it.
I like the swing top lid but wish there was some kind of tab or something to lock it in place because it's very lightweight and falls off easily. The only other con is that once the bag gets a bit too full the lid won't swing open because it's hitting trash.
These trash cans got my kids to help with recycling more. They love to toss their drink bottles at the lid and make a basket! We use one for plastic and one for cans/metal. The swing top makes it easy for me too. I can just push the lid as I add the trash and it pops back up. I can drop trash in one handed and I don't have to lift the nasty lid. Keeps the trash covered and less “trashy”! Lol I like the gray because it blends in so easily just about anywhere. The white ones get stained and dirty looking pretty fast. These seem to show the dirt less. Seem nice and sturdy too.
There are many uses for trashcans other than using it for trash. I was happy to be able to choose this 2 pack. I decided to use one in my shop and the other in my house. One will be used for trash as I needed to replace my old worn out trash can. The other one, I am using as a storage bin for scrap wood pieces. The swing top lids are nice but when it comes to trash, I do find it gets so nasty very quickly. It's great for hiding the trash from sight and keep the smell down but when you have kids, they don't always take care to use a clean hand to push the lid open to throw the trash away. I wind up cleaning the trash can more than anything. I wound up taking the lid off and storing it away. I did keep the lid on the one in my shop. Its easy to toss the extra wood pieces in it and keep it covered. One thing about these trash bins, they seem a lot thinner than they used to be. I haven't bought a trash can in years and all the ones ive had were made with thick plastic and were made well. These seem thin and sort of flimsy. The lids are worse but they will last for a good while. These would not be my first pick for trash cans but they will serve the purpose and do it well.
This is a wonderful trash can - very sturdy and the lid stays on and keeps the bag in place. The description says it is a 2 pack; however I only received one and never received the second one. I do like the vibrant red color and the quality of it. I would recommend this trash can to someone based on the craftsmanship but would not recommend it being shipped.
I really just now got theses trash cans two days ago, but from what I see from them so far is they are made from a durable plastic and can be kicked around and will keep their shap. The surface seems like it will be easy to clean off. They are light weight easly to move around and a good size!
