The lid is domed so you can decorate and possibly transport with candles already setup! Honestly if I don't use it as a cake try it would be a good seed starter! Store bought cupcakes with regular icing height have plenty of clearance. The tray kept them separated and prevented them from sliding together and getting stuck on each other.
