Mainstays Safe Cut Black Can Opener

This Mainstays Safe Cut Can Opener is great! I'm glad I purchased 2 because I had a difficult time finding it- I'm surprised I was able to find it at Walmart and at a fantastic price! I want the can opener that cuts on the side- not the top, so that if I cannot use up all the contents, I can simply put the lid back on. I heard very good reviews about it, and I hope it lasts a long time.

Made in Taiwan. This is a wash by hand only item. This an opener does not work like the traditional ones as it cuts from the side and not the top. It leaves a smooth edge. I ran my finger all around the cut can and felt nothing sharp at all. Perfect with little helpers in the kitchen. To use this opener you hold it sideways so that the metal ring lays on the top of the can. Then you start to turn the crank. It attached to the can right away and started cutting with little effort. It is simpler to use than the top can opener. You do not have to press down to puncture the can like the old style. The only problem I saw with this was with tuna. I use the lid to press down on the tuna to help drain the water. I propped this at an angle to let the water out and pressed in slightly on 2 opposite ends. It worked perfect! It drained all the water needed and better yet, I was not trying to fish out a sharp lid from inside the can. This is amazing. I could never go back to the old style now. It is a must have!

Bought this for a friend that said she could not find a can opener that would not break after a few weeks of use. She said this one works well. Likes it and says that it seems to be durable.

I've had this can opener for close to 7 years. It's still going strong. I LOVE the safety cut that it provides. The seal it creates lets you nest the lid back on if you'd choose to do so. Definitely recommend for anyone who wants a safer cut.

As I am getting older, my hands are not as strong as they used to be. Why not buy an electric opener you may ask. Well, I have little countertop space and do not use cans that much. I had bought a can opener with a knurled knob at the top, also one that cuts the seam of the can, in a silver color but it was getting kind of dull, the little tab for lifting the lid was bent, and it was starting too look a bit on the dirty side and no washing got out the residue food stuck to the toothed wheel so I jumped on the opportunity to try this Mainstays can opener - and I am glad I did. This one has the knob on the side and I thought it might be a bit harder on my hands but it is not. It's actually much lighter than my old one and cuts through the seam of the lid much easier. The lid of the can lifts off very easily, clean with no metal particles, much easier than with my old one. It is also somewhat smaller so takes up less space in my kitchen drawer. If you think this can opener does not look fancy enough, think again. It works great and is easy to use, that's all I want from my can opener. Little hint: hold the can opener a bit at an angle when positioning the ring on the lid to make it easier to "bite" into the seam. Once it engages, it's quick and easy to separate the lid from the can.

I've cut my finger on a can lid in the past. It's worse than a paper cut. When Spark Review gave me the opportunity to try and review this can opener, I did so. It is much like using a regular can opener, except that you angle the opener down towards the can a little. When it takes hold of the edge of the can, it separates the can from the lid, and there's no sharp edge at all. I have some arthritis in my hands, so it was a bit more difficult to turn the handle than it was for a regular can opener. It was an acceptable trade-off for me. You can also replace the lid on the can if you want to store it in the fridge temporarily. I also like not having to clean off a bunch of gunk from the gears caused by liquid from the can oozing out from when the can is pierced. These make nice gifts, too.

I buy a lot of products from Mainstays and I have been having a problem with my old can opener so when I got a chance to try out this Mainstays Safe Cut Black Can Opener I wanted to give it a try. This has some neat features compared with my old opener. I like that's it's black it goes well with my kitchen appliances. This cuts differently than the other can openers so read the directions. This separates the lid from the can so its much safer on the fingers. This has a extra large handle and it's easier for turning when opening the cans. I also like that it's made that I can hang it. Does say to hand wash.

Can opener is easy to use.

I haven't used it, but my husband loves it and claims it is very easy to use. Much easier than traditional can openers.

Got this as a replacement for similar one by OXO. This Mainstays one is identical but much cheaper - a great buy! It cuts well without sharp edges, as claimed. I've not had it long enough to determine durability but it seems to be rugged.
