I have bought one in the past in the store saw that they had them online so ended up buying more. I've had the first one over a year. They all work perfect and look great.
I am using this solar rock/spotlight in two different ways. It does not have to be staked in the ground like most outdoor lights that are solar-powered. So I put it directly on my front porch to light the front door and entry. My overhead light is too bright and attracts insects. So placing the light on the porch itself produces a subtle glow that allows friends to see the steps and door. Since you are able to aim the light up and down, it is possible to pinpoint the area that you want to light up. ... For the Fourth of July, I changed the placement so the light pointed upward to the flag that is near my front door. This way I can meet guidelines for displaying the flag that require that a flag flying at night be lighted. So again, my new little rock-light fills the criteria. See the photo below. Even though we have been experiencing excessive dust in the air recently causing the sky to be somewhat overcast, the solar panel has been able to recharge without a problem. I believe that one charge has lasted about 5 1/2 hours. I have not chosen to use it to hide a key. But I can see it working for an extra door key. A very handy little device.
The Mainstays Solar Powered Rock Landscape Spottlight will blend into rock landscaping in your yard. It takes two full days to charge up the light, so dont be disappointed when you try it the first night, wait until the second night and you will see it does work as a spotlight, which could be pointed towards a walkway or to a point of interest in your landscape. It has a lkey compartment on the bottom, a solar panel on top.
I was trying to solve a small problem in my back yard. We live in a rural area without public lighting on the streets. It's a "dark sky" area and we enjoy the clean air and the nighttime light show from the stars. The problem was that I often couldn't see well enough to lock up our garage when we were done with our after-dinner visit to the back patio. Some evenings I literally couldn't see my hand in front of me. Enter the Mainstays Solar Rock. It has a switch attached to the solar panel that allows you to choose when (or whether) the light comes on. If you leave the switch in the "on" position, the light will come on at dusk and go off at dawn by itself. But because of our dark sky location, I've chosen to switch the light off when we're going in for the night. I'm quite pleased to be able to switch the light on or off at will, rather than letting the sensor do it for me. The rock also has a fairly large compartment where you could keep a key. This isn't a function that we need, but I can see how it could come in handy for some folks. The light is as bright as you could want. The rock itself is fairly convincing in appearance. But it's the switch that makes it perfect for me. I'm considering adding another one for the area around our front door & driveway.
These little lights are perfect for landscape illumination. They are amazingly bright and my landscape really stands out with these lights on them. They are not the dim lights that you can barely see, the one that shines on the shrub in front of my bedroom, lights up my entire bedroom if the blinds are not closed.
Let me start out by saying that I am a 30+ year veteran of owning outdoor lighting fixtures. I have witnessed amazing improvements in outdoor lighting technology and have owned many different products, some are pure junk and others are mainstay keepers in my home. Recently solar powered fixtures have hit the scene and they offer numerous advantages over wired systems. The early generation solar lights were mere novelty items. They did not hold much of a solar charge and stayed dimly lit for an hour or two each day. Fast forward to today and we now have efficient models that gather and store solar energy to power the fixture well into the night. And these solar lights couldn’t be simpler. Just place them in your yard where you want some night light and let the sun do the rest. This Rock Spotlight is the first product that serves two purposes. The main purpose of course is a unique looking device styled to look like a garden rock with a built in small solar panel and a small spotlight. The other ingenious purpose is a hidden tiny compartment on the underside that will hold a housekey or two. Put this item outside in your yard where you want a nice glowing small spotlight at night. Of course only you will know on that very rare occasion when you somehow get locked outside of your house that you have a real safety net to save you. And let’s admit it, we all at one time or another have done something stupid to find ourselves standing outside our locked up homes with no keys available to get inside. Leaving a key in the mailbox or under a doormat is a bygone trick that many thieves will look for. But this little inconspicuous product serves as a nifty little spotlight at night and will never leave you standing outside of your locked up house again. To be fair, I haven’t owned it very long, so I don’t know how long the light feature will last, but it will always be a secret safety net to get inside my house.
The light works perfectly and it's exactly what I wanted as for the color and brightness. I ordered two however one was damaged and I was reimbursed within a week. So far I consider it to be an excellent product.
This spotlight is very robust and has a great lumen output. Make sure it has full sun in the day and by dusk you will have some good wall lighting. The key cubby is a nice extra. No need to add any batteries. Everything you need is in the rock.
The Mainstays Solar Powered Rock Landscape Spotlight with Key compartment arrived in pristine condition fully assembled. This review is part of a Walmart Spark Review. The product dimensions are 6.69 inches in length, 5.51 inches in width, and 5.91 inches in height. It’s brown in color and weighs 1.25 pounds. The faux rock blends in with the other rocks for a great camouflage. The brown color will complement many designs found in patios, walkways, sidewalks, and trails. Features include thirty Lumen light output is approximately thirty by fifteen square feet. The product is solar powered, eco-friendly and efficient. The faux rock has solar panels that get charged with the constant sunshine found in this area and lights up at dusk. The switch has two controls, automatic and off. The spotlight reflects on the rock wall and provides quite a bit of illumination. Another one will provide better lighting. I will definitely buy a second faux rock to light up the backyard. The hidden key compartment could be used to hide your spare key. Hopefully forgetting the house key never happens, but you’re covered just in case. Any other key could be hidden here like the tool shed or extra car key. The MainstaysSolar Powered Rock Landscape Spotlight with Key Compartment provides more than one service, landscape addition, hidden key compartment, and spotlight while saving money and allows you to do your part for the planet.
The functionality and concept of this rock makes sense. It’s solar powered. It charges itself from the Sun’s rays and provides a spotlight on your home or business, anything. There is a compartment to place a spare key. The rock itself is very small, measuring 6x4. The key conpartment is easily accessible. I would not place keys to my home or any other valuables. The design makes it so this rock doesn’t exactly blend with any natural terrain and would be an easy giveaway.
