I'm buying this for ducks that frequent a pond where I live, some wild and some domestics that were abandoned there. They clearly love it -- they all come waddling madly to me when they see me coming. The quality of the scratch is a little variable, and it's occasionally too dusty. But -- it's very inexpensive, and Walmart's very low cost of shipping this straight to me is convenient beyond words. The combination can't be beat.
I prefer this scratch because it includes more than just cracked corn. The chickens really like the millet and so do the quail and other birds. It can double as bird seed for a lot of birds.
excellent price for 40 lb bag, tried to order more but was out of stock
We buy this scratch to feed the birds in the winter. We do wish that it had the big black seed like the other we have bought for several years. The birds still like it during the winter and are out in the back yard feeding.
The egg man brings me nice eggs and I buy this as a thank-you every so often. I've heard no complaints from him and he still brings me eggs .... so I'd say his chickens, ducks and misc. wild birds appreciate it.
I feed the birds (and other critters) through the winter. They typically leave when spring arrives. They stuck around longer this year. I figured that my food was supplemental at this point, so I chose these scratch grains because it has cracked corn in it, one of the things I feed during the winter. They love it. And it's cheap. And they're still here. But I figure for ten bucks a bag they can stay as long as they want.
I dislike all the extra cardboard. I ordered 4 bags and each came in its own box. A lot of waste. The feed is already in a very durable bag. It came straight to my door and saves me 10.00 over the co-op and almost 15.00 less than Tractor Supply. I would really rather our Walmart carried it in stock and I could grab it there and save the cardboard and the mailman's back.
I just opened my First bag of this so called Scratch grains,,only to find a bag full of nothing but CORN in various sizes re:cracked, whole, partially cracked and maybe just one or two kernals of Milo,,There was not one kernal of grain as in barley wheat or oats. This I know as after I saw what it was I dumped it in my wheel barrow and took it to the field for the cows to eat.. We learn from our mistakes and I will be returning to the store the other three bags that I ordered thinking that I might find some good mixed grain for by birds,,birds chickens do not eat corn as it makes them fat and then they cannot lay,, so if you are buying it for your Meat birds go fo it. Not going to happen for me again.
was mostly cracked corn, hardly any other types of grain, bag says scratch grains? lesson learned, my chickens will be glad when it is gone, so they can go back to the actual mixed grain from the feed store. it has wheat, barley, oats, milo, cracked corn and sunflower seeds. they waste no time with that, but with this being 90% corn, they just leave it lay. my fault for trying to stretch a dollar, did not work this time.
Chickens like it, but they like about anything. I did find a 50 lb bag at a local farm store that was a better buy. Will stick with other store since price is better. It was nice that Walmart shipped this product to my house. However, I can buy online at the other store and within an hour of ordering, it is ready to be picked up and they will load it into my car.
