Delicious Sliced Challah - my new favorite bread!

Lisa July 6, 2026

I originally ordered an unsliced challah, but it was out of stock, so Walmart substituted this sliced challah instead. At first, I planned to return it, but I decided to try a slice—and WOW!!! I'm so glad I did. The slices are nice and thick, the bread is soft and delicious, and the flavor is outstanding. It makes incredible challah French toast and is also fantastic for sandwiches. I probably never would have tried this on my own, but now it's my favorite bread. This substitution turned out to be a wonderful surprise!

Good enough

anonymous August 25, 2025

This challah is meant I think for French toast, sandwiches and maybe regular toast. The texture is good and the flavor is sweet. It is also PAS Yisroel kosher which isn't evident from the description. I'm a ripper so I prefer an unsliced challah for Shabbat. But this is great to make kids French toast and as a snack.

THE BEST CHALLAH BREAD THIS SIDE OF NEW YORK!

Karen71 July 19, 2026

I was very happy when Walmart started carrying this wonderful bread in several stores here in Mississippi! I grew up on the East Coast where Challah was popular and always available. When my late husband and I moved back to his hometown, Carthage, I was unable to get it here and was reduced to filling up a suitcase of Challah to bring home each time I visited my grandma in New York, or having my son send it to me from California! Now, I am delighted to stock up locally whenever I shop. The only thing that would make me even happier would be if the Carthage store started carrying NY-style sliced seeded rye bread, another thing I miss from my youth! The Carthage store carries pumpernickel rye, but that doesn't even come close to being real rye bread! I find myself running around to Walmart stores outside of the local area looking for rye. It would be great if I could buy both Challah and Rye in Carthage rather than going to stores considerably farther away from my home. For those of you reading this, you've got to try this bread! For anyone from Walmart in Carthage, please consider adding the sliced, seeded rye bread to your bakery order!

The flavor was wonderful, almost as good as the challah I used to get at the bread bakery near the Evanston hospital years ago. The flavor was superior to any challah I've bought in our community. It should be a little sweet from honey, and yellowish from the eggs. The only criticism I have is it shouldn't be sliced. We should do that, or be free to tear it ( my preference). Please try to keep it in stock.

Challah has always been a very special and very delicious bread And Marketside makes it very good. I have previously purchased the unsliced loafs. But I like the convenience of buying a pre- sliced loaf.

I tried a piece of a whole loaf in the past and didn't like it. I enjoyed very much this time around with a glass of wine. It was soft but still had a good chewy texture.

Nice challah bread

Valerie July 10, 2026

I *really* like this bread. When fresh it keeps forever. Stays moist, nice flavor. The catch: it doesn't seem to have a use by date (not where I have been able to find it anyway), and when I order it online, it sometimes isn't all that fresh when I receive it. I'd also wish that the slices were thinner so I could make sandwiches better.

This was substituted for Sliced Italian. I've never eaten this type of bread before. Personally, I don't like breads like Sour Dough and Hawaiian. This bread is a thick, semi dense type of bread that reminds me of raisin bread. The quality is good but at $5 , I don't consider this a good deal. To this is a bread that I'd eat with baked beans or something with sauce. It would be good for toast or preserves. The flavor is sweet like raisin bread and tastes good if you like raisin bread. This isn't the best for sandwiches. All of the meat came several times, so I just ate the bread and meat separately. It's too slippery for sandwiches For what it is, I give it 4 stars and recommend this bread if you're a fan of raisin bread. The crust is very nice. It's firm and soft at the same time. it doesn't make crumb, at all. the inside is ok but I don't like the texture because it gets slick and gets like slimy from mayo, pickles and lunch meat. it's comparable to pepperidge farms bread or sara lee bread in quality, packaging and taste. I like this bread a lot but I don't like the sweetness and the texture of the inside portion.

this is Not challah, it doesn't taste like real challah, doesn't look like it, it was tough, I couldn't tear a piece off the slice without pulling hard, and the slices are too thick.

not even close to a Challah bread. a real Challah is very eggy inside and the color is Yellow not white like this was. this was more a white bread than anything else.
