Versatile to cook with and tasty

Kim August 2, 2025

I appreciate that Walmart carries items of the organic, free range, and grass fed varieties. Walmart's grass fed beef options are pretty decent. The quality, value, and taste are consistently good in my experience. The chuck roast is an item I frequently purchase. Since Walmart doesn't carry an organic or grass fed brisket, I brine a chuck roast for homemade corned beef with good results. I also like to make birria with this chuck roast. I'm generally not a big fan of pot roast but the one I made with this grass fed chuck roast was good. I've also used this cut of beef for homemade pho broth. This roast has become a staple when I need a large cut of beef for a recipe.

Excellent quality of grass-fed beef roast

Margaret October 6, 2025

I was craving a beef roast and this Marketside Grass-Fed Beef Chuck Roast, 1.5-2.5 pound was just the perfect size for me, as I live alone and didn't want a huge roast. I cooked it in my Instant Pot with carrots, potatoes, and onions and it came out so tender and very tasty.

I see lots of bad reviews, but we order this cut all the time and I've never had any issues. It is grass fed which tastes different than non-grass fed beef, smaller cut with a higher cost is normal. I make crock pot ramen, BBQ, plain roast and have cut and cooked by the cube. This is a great deal for the cut, but if you are not use to grass fed meat, it might be a change for you.

I buy grass fed meat from sustainable farms and wanted to try this out since I buy other groceries from here. I normally give 4 to 5-star ratings on what I've purchased but I just couldn't on this product. Considering the meat was nicely marbled with fat, and I added garlic inside the meat to further infuse flavor, added light seasonings. I was surprised the meat was still lacking in flavor... Normally the grass fed meat I buy, I just lightly season because I want to taste the beef flavor and it's usually so delicious. I will buy it again to see if the next one is better.

The smallest roast I have ever seen in my life.

Mitchel March 3, 2026

It was a delivery order - The 'roast' was 1.79 pounds. I wasn't even aware they made roasts that small. What can you do with a roast that is 1.79 pounds? It cooked down to a little over 1 pound - enough for two people - if they aren't very hungry...

Fatty $ubstution

Sharon July 7, 2025

This grass fed roast was substituted for the roast I originally ordered. It cost more per pound than what I originally ordered and we were less than happy with it. Of the 2.25 lbs we paid for, I would say about 1.25 lbs was all fat! If I’m paying more, I expect the butcher to trim the meat better and ensure better quality! I guess I thought since it cost more per pound and is grass fed the quality, taste and texture would be better. Not the case at all!!

gross texture

Jessica December 12, 2025

ive gotten this item 3 times now. first time it was fine, I slow roasted it and it was a nice solid chunk of meat. the last 2 times ive gotten it now its practically torn apart into nearly seperate pieces that were squished together and are filled with tough connective tissue. absolutely gross, waste of money.

Huge disappointment!!! Please Walmart do better! I've never seen so many layers of silver skin in a small 2 lb piece of meat before in my life. even in Crock-Pot for 6 hours, it was tough chewy and grisly. chuck roast always comes out tender in the crock-pot. Nope not this meat! I was expecting a delicious juicy roast as per usual, and since paying extra for grass fed beef, which is supposed to be of higher quality and recommended as a healthier option should be even better. if quality is not raised substantially on this item at walmart, I will have to buy it somewhere else. nearly 20 bucks for a 2 lb piece of meat and have it come out like that is unacceptable and too costly. Not to mention the time %26 effort of describing the problem and requesting a refund and having it not go through on the app and having to call. all in all probably took over an hour to get a refund for my meat and three vegetables that were going bad only a day after purchase

I cooked thos meat in a.crick pot making pot roast and i dont care what anyone says any meat will fall apart after cooking for 6 hours..well this peice of meat no word of a lie you could bounce it off my table ..i couldnt get my fork into it..and my best steak knife i couldnt cut it .i had to have my son cut it..then i tried breaking a piece off and i had a hard time..This meat was not eatable period..I think they mistakenly put a ball of muscle in the package by accident it certainly wasnt pot roast meat..this is the best meat for a.pot roast it should fall apart after 6 hours..unreal..i have 2 witnesses, i actually kept the meat i put it in freezer but it dont matter they can see what im saying when it thaws..so 20 dollars in food in the garbadge..im disgusted with wal mart right now , going to call better business..very upset..

Unfortunately we opened it up well before the September date and put it in the crockpot, it smelled rancid %26 an odd grayish film rose to the surface of the water, also ruining the vegetable s that were in the pot. The fowl smell was gross. Unfortunately that was supposed to be our dinner!
