This is one of the healthiest foods you can eat. It has an earthy flavor and is not to everyone's taste, but I LOVE it. I just take a handful from the box, tear it up and add chickpeas, cucumbers, avocado, boiled egg, chives, sweet pepper and pour oil and balsamic vinegar on it and dig in. I've never tried cooking with it because it's so enjoyable raw. You can add anything you like. I am a vegetarian, but a little feta cheese and raw sunflower seeds are great with it. So good for you!!
I hope Walmart keeps carrying this baby arugula forever, because I like it so much more than other greens, it makes the difference between having a salad only occasionally if I force myself, versus looking forward to it almost every day!!! A lot of people describe arugula as slightly spicy, peppery -I guess I agree, but to me the main flavor is more "nutty", kind of like roasted sunflower seeds. It definitely doesn't have that bitter "plant" flavor that spinach and kale have! And another great thing -when arugula goes bad it simply yellows rather than rots, so you can very easily see and remove an older leaf, rather than have disgusting slime ruin the whole container!
There is no party in my salad bowl or boring green collection...without arugula. I toss it on everything, sandwiches, on my hot pizza or burritos. When I was young, I couldn't understand the unusual slightly bitter taste but now, I add it to many things and I try to always have some available. I'm going to be honest, I was a grocery snob just months ago, a dedicated foody and would never think I could buy organic fresh arugula or other assorted organic greens at Walmart, I was way wrong! And, this is only one of the special or unusual salad greens I buy now with my delivery purchase included with my membership. I have a few of those too! Great quality and price, makes sense. My boyfriend would rather enjoy free fancy coffee, perusing fancy grocery store aisles and spending way too much money but he is no longer in charge! Lol! We are not a young couple anymore and due to circumstances or life's curve balls, I am now using my delivery membership and honestly, I feel like a lucky happy queen, thank you Walmart for doing my shopping when I could not!
We have been very happy with this little bin of Arugula offered by Walmart. A few years ago you couldn't buy Arugula in Natchitoches, now several stores offer it, but this is the most reasonable price. To make it last longer, wrap paper towels around the whole lot, so the leaves don't absorb condensation on the plastic bin and go slimey. 😀
We really like this arugula. I use it in sandwiches, buy the handful. If I make a sliced cheese sandwich, with tomato slices and sweet onion slivers, I add a handful of arugula, piled in the center. When you bite into the sandwich, the crunchy texture is wonderful. One day I realized it was as satisfying like a meat sandwich, lots to chew and enjoy. My husband enjoys his packed lunches much more than a fast good lunch, and his arteries are nice and clear.
Why did they change the packaging? This is next to impossible to keep fresh with this "lid." I have always placed a paper towel on the lid and turned it upside down and it will be keep for a while. With this flap of plastic it does not stay sealed. Food is too expensive in general to waste.
ever since the packaging changed, this is a terrible product. this was previously fresh, good, and a weekly staple for me. sometimes I even bought two. but with the new peel off top packaging, it doesn't taste right or stay fresh, even if I move it to a different container, the damage already seems to be done. I tried several times with the new packaging in case I just got in a bad batch, but no more. I am sad that this is no longer going to be a regular purchase for me. I saw a few other reviews that seem to have similar experiences. I'm glad you're trying to be more conservative with your packaging, environmentally, but it's not working for this product.
This arugula was extremely fresh and green. It smells like gasoline and taste awful. I love the small size but I could not eat it because of the smell and taste.
I LOVED this product until they changed from clam shell packaging to the “heat?” Sealed package. There is some sort of plasticy taste to it now…chemical and awful and so disappointing. I do not know what to do. What a terrible thing to do to a lovely product. I do not see other options for this type of lettuce so, I guess I will do without. I sure hope they do not heat seal the other prewashed lettuce selections.
The problem is the packaging. They changed from a clam shell type to sealed plastic. The arugula has some kind of off gassing issue with the new sealed lid. The smell is awful. I have bought this many times and the smell was always amazing upon opening. I think it has something to do with the arugula not being able to “breathe” after being packaged or Walmart is spraying the arugula with some kind of preservative. Either way I am totally bummed because this used to be an awesome product that I bought several times per month.
