An abomination of a game and insult to gamers who waited five years for this. Horrid character designs, lackluster gameplay, a mediocre story, obvious self-inserts, and the outrageous amount of handholding.
Wolverine should have been amazing coming from a developer such as Insomniac Games, but they clearly do not know what it takes to make a great Wolverine story, let alone set up a universe for the X-Men to exist. Decades later, Rocksteady is still the only developer to make truly spectacular superhero games. Wolverine is repetitive and bland. It also has an abysmal story. There's fun to be had, but only if you can get a significant discount.
This game took me by surprise, definitive wasn't expecting to have so much fun, from the story, the references, the fighting it's a great game all around. Beat it 100% Whiskey, Crates, Trophies and I'm still itching for more. Awesome Graphics, Great sound and voice acting (Great Jean Character, Troy Nailed Essex! ), Controls are very intuitive; although sometimes camera angles can get tight, Replay value is high.
Price is probably the biggest decision maker for my rating. $70 isn't worth it. The actual game is decent with multiple problems but overall its a decent experience. Would reccommend buying at a decently lower price point. (remember, always buy physical if you can, digital sucks)
fighting quite repetitive, just smashing buttons, way too linear and, holds your hand while playing(if you fail an QTE the game will do it for you, there's no 'fail' or 'mission over' or death scene unless you jump into lava....and can't leave the mission area unless you use bugs.
Really enjoying this game so far! The gameplay is fun, the graphics look great, and Wolverine is exactly the kind of character that makes this style of game entertaining. If you're a Wolverine or Marvel fan and have a PS5, it's definitely worth checking out.
I played about 30 minutes and I'm already hooked. This game looks gorgeous and I have a base PS5. They is a lot to learn as far as controls but it isn't anything complicated. Once you do master the controls, you'll have a blast with Wolverine slicing and dicing countless enemies.
Story: 4/5 - Start was good, slowed down in the middle, and the ending missions were great. This game is very cutscene heavy but a lot of them are battle cutscenes which are choreographed beautifully. There's also a decent amount of walking and talking parts in this game which were fine but can get boring. Gameplay: 3/5 - The combat is extremely fun, I wish there were more animations and combos. The handholding really drags this score down, the scent trails leading to an obvious location, the white paint on everything that you can climb which insults our intelligence, and the flashing lights on every loot crate which makes them unmissable so there isn't much encouragement to actually explore for yourself. Visuals: 5/5 - A gorgeous game, especially in the snow parts. Writing: 2/5 - Once again with the handholding, but verbally. There will be an obvious location to get to and the sidekick will state the obvious that you have to get there. And a lot of dialogue can be cringe, as if a teenager wrote them. Sabertooth saying "That's my wolverine" and "cry more", Jean saying "I love that for him". Logan sees a jug of blood that people drank from for a ritual that people partook in, Jean was grossed out and instead of saying "Gross" she makes a dramatic puking noise which just doesn't feel like her character. And there's more cringe dialogue sprinkled into game. Characters: 4/5 - Despite the bad writing between characters, most of the characters themselves looked and acted like how they should've, and the voice acting for all of them was amazing. *Character spoilers ahead* Sabertooth looks mean and is vicious, Jean looks good and the game does good with her powers, Deathstrike looked fine, Calisto doesn't look at all like the comics and she is quite a nothing character in this game, her only purpose was to talk and exist. Essex was extremely cool, but Logan doesn't look like how he should, the actor playing him, Liam, looks more like Wolverine then the guy we play as in game. I would've liked him to look more gritty, hairy, and tough looking, but him as a character was cool and learning his memories throughout the game was really fun. The rest of the characters were fine.
This is a good game, but it does fall short of the expectations placed on it after how good the Spider-man games have been. It like it was very close to being something special but instead is just a good game. If you like Wolverine you will enjoy this game but it isn't anything genre defining like Spider-man was.
Wolverine is an outstanding game. I don't understand why it's getting such mediocre ratings smh everything that they said about settings that make it “too easy” was a lie because you can change those settings. Anyways don't hesitate to get this game for yourself especially if you've been waiting 6-7 years like I have for it. Form your own opinion, if you're a wolverine fan chances are you're going to love it and get your moneys worth.
