[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased the Masterbuilt autoignite 545 unit this fall and am really looking forward to using it once the weather warms up. I’ve been interested in the gravity charcoal feed concept for quite some time, but I’ve held off on buying a pellet grill because I’ve always preferred the flavor and control of charcoal cooking. As a longtime (self-proclaimed) BBQ enthusiast, I’ve owned and used several smokers and grills over the years, including an offset smoker from Oklahoma Joe's, a dual propane/charcoal unit from Member's Mark, and a Weber Smoky Mountain smoker from Weber. In fact, I’m in the process of giving them away because, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized I always come back to charcoal cooking. That’s why this concept really stands out to me. The combination of digital controls, auto-ignite, and a gravity-fed charcoal system from Masterbuilt seems like a true game changer. It offers the authentic charcoal experience I enjoy, with the convenience and consistency of modern technology.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve had my 545 grill for one year as well as several other grills and this grill is my absolute favorite!! From the auto igniter to the perfectly even cook and amazing coal and smoke flavor
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’m excited to share my experience regarding this incredible Masterbuilt AutoIgnite 545 grill. From the very first use, it exceeded my expectations in both performance and convenience. The AutoIgnite feature is a game-changer—starting the grill is quick, effortless, and consistent, eliminating the usual hassle of lighting charcoal. Temperature control is precise and reliable, making it easy to maintain steady heat whether I’m grilling burgers, smoking ribs, or slow-cooking larger cuts of meat. The build quality feels solid and well-designed, with ample cooking space that’s perfect for family meals or entertaining friends. Cleanup is also straightforward, which is a big plus after long cookouts. Overall, the Masterbuilt AutoIgnite 545 combines ease of use, versatility, and excellent results, making it a fantastic choice for anyone who loves the flavor of charcoal but wants a more modern, user-friendly grilling experience.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Now I tell you one thing about this hands-down, the best smaller series grill/smoker Masterbuild out this one has cast iron inside the best edition automatic ignite huge space to smoke whatever you want
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] What a smoker/grill. I have used this product for smoking pulled pork, to grilling hotdogs and hamburgers. The small compact frame makes it easy to move, but the larger hopper can allow me to low n slow smoke for 8-10 hours. I throw in wood chunks to make the smoke penetrate a little extra, but having a gravity fed grill is the best possible scenario. I wouldn’t recommend another product on the market more than this one!
Bought this hoping for a real Swiss Army knife that could do everything fairly well. What I got was a surprisingly good smoker that’s pretty underwhelming at higher temps. Even an hour of pre-heating at 650 isn’t enough temp to create any real grill char on foods. It’ll get the job done eventually, but an hour of start up time just to throw some burgers on and have them come off looking like they were baked in an oven is kinda lame. Smokes better than a lot of much more expensive purpose built smokers I’ve used, though.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had the 545 autoignite for almost a year. To date I've cooked over 100 different cooks on this and here's my take. I love the way it cooks and it has been able to turn out some amazing meat. But the downsides are plenty. Ash blowing into the food when you add charcoal. The ash container is way too small. LSS provides a larger ash collector (but why should they have too). Overall, it's a great grill and part time smoker. I like it enough to have two. But it's limited in my eyes to shorter cooks and not a good fit for longer cooks.
Grill construction/quality: Great 5/5 Design: 3/5 sloppy arrangement Digital features: 1/5 The great: the fan and sensors work perfectly. It's very good at hitting target temps quickly and staying consistent. However, the wifi software is horrible. It just assumes you have a 20 year old wifi router. It breaks on any newer router and you have to spend hours doing IT troubleshooting. Also expect the app to be "searching for software updates" every day since the day you buy it. Next, why did someone design the hopper dump to be right over the shelf? Hope you didn't store anything there that can't be covered in ash all the time. But that aside, just using the controls manually, it's a solid grill for the price and I get great results from it. They should just fire their software team and it'd be great.
Just beware - if you are planning to use this to smoke meats, you cannot set the temp below 250 degrees on this. Kind of makes low and slow out of the question
