I really love this car seat. This will be our third Maxi-Cosi car seat (in three kids) and I've had nothing but good experiences with this brand. This new Maxi-Cosi Pria™ Chill has all the things I love about my original Pria™ (comfortable padding, high safety rating, good quality materials) and adds some great features like a magnetic chest clip, built-in strap holders, breathable fabric, and ventilation fans. We moved to South Carolina last year and the summer heat is no joke. "Hot" is my 2 year old's #1 complaint in the car, so this fan system is such a useful feature for us! I found this seat to be easy to install both rear facing and front-facing. The LATCH clips are easy-release and the straps are simple to route through when making adjustments. And, if any challenges or hiccups arise during install, Maxi-Cosi offers a virtual car seat appointment to get questions answered and provide peace of mind for a proper install. Once I got it installed, I routed the fan cord down the front of the seat, under the floor mat, and up to the center console to plug in. It was really easy to tuck away. My favorite feature is the magnetic chest clip. It makes buckling and unbuckling super easy without sacrificing a feeling of security - it clicks on tight! It did take me a few tries to get good at the unclipping, but now it comes easily. Overall, this is the same high-quality seat that I know and love from Maxi-Cosi with some added "cool" features that make life easier - a total win for me! Of note, I'm a NICU nurse so I am very familiar with fitting newborns in car seats and it is NOT an easy thing to do in some brands/models. The Pria™ Chill is recommended down to 4lbs and I feel confident that the provided newborn inserts would make this possible, so this seat could be used from the very first ride home from the hospital. I was given this all in one car seat to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel in exchange for my honest review.
My first impression of the car seat was that it was very comfortable looking, and quite large. I drive a small compact car and was worried it wouldn't fit, but it fits just fine! I was so excited for the fan system the car seat had, as my child runs extremely warm and often is hot in the car- no matter the season. It has been so nice to have on while the heat is on in the car, knowing that she is cool but the car itself is warm for her. I know the summer will be great to have this feature as well. The fabric and cushion of this car seat is so comfortable feeling and breathable, you can tell just by the touch of it. I can tell my daughter is comfortable sitting in it, while still secure and safe. The seat was extremely easy to install, the virtual appointment is an added bonus to make sure you have everything correct, and the cord for the fan is easily accessible. When the seat is forward facing , the cord may be harder to get to, but as a rear facing seat, it works just fine. I'm so glad my daughter will have this seat for all stages of her growth. Overall I just love the look of this car seat, the safety of it all, and the added bonus that my daughter is more than comfortable.
We bought this a few months ago because our 2 year old was having heat issues in a normal car seat in the southern US. The Pria Chill was an instant night and day difference in comfort for our daughter and she went on and on about how “this seat keeps me cool”. She complains when she's in another car seat now. The only complaint I have this that you can't turn the fan on manually, it only runs when the sensor thinks it should. Our little one runs hot and has asked several times for us to turn the fan on because she's warm but the car seat hasn't decided it's warm enough to run the fan yet and we have to explain to her that we can't control the fan. The on/off switch in the power cable is only to turn the system on or off, not the fans themselves.
I received this product through the Stellar Product Testing Panel in exchange for my honest review. We received this car seat during the first week of December, and we live in Phoenix, Arizona. My daughter is almost 2, and I drive a small SUV. I mention all of that because I think one of the big draws of this car seat is the built in fans that it has. They are super quiet and a fantastic feature (today is December 7th, and it was an 80 degree day, so... yes please fans.). The cord is super long and easy to tie up. We threaded it up to my front dashand it stayed out of the way and tucked behind the passenger seat belt buckle without hassle. The switch ended up being right behind the passenger seat back, which makes it easy to reach in the back seat to toggle. I have a car that turns off the engine when it idles, and that made the fans turn off. Just FYI that they might not be consistently running if you are a momma that has to wait with your car parked in a school pick up line for an older kiddo. Really nice to see 2 cup holders and a lot of additional features to make baby comfortable. If we received this car seat when my daughter was an infant, it would have been really nice to use the extra padding that is provided for smaller babies -- way more removable pieces than other convertible car seats. A few cons that we did not enjoy when trying out this car seat: - the harness buckle across the chest is designed to be easier to manage (i think it has a magnet component), but it's actually a bit cumbersome to clip with a squirmy toddler. - the buckle part that's right between the legs gets covered by the padding really easily, so it's hard to get it to click since it slides around. - the cup holders are actually really small. They won't hold a 12 oz yeti bottle. - install is a PAIN. There is not a level, just a line that you're supposed make parallel to the seat. - pro and con on the padding; hard to get baby in unless the car door opening is huge.
We live in Texas and it is so hard to keep my child cool, even with the AC on full blast. I always feel so bad when I take my daughter out of her seat and her back is sweaty from her car seat. This car seat has a solution for sweaty kids and I'm so here for it!! I could see this also being amazing for rear-facing kiddos who get hot too. I'm so grateful Stellar Panel provided us this car seat to try. Though it did arrive in December, we tested it out on a warmer day and it worked really well. First, it was easy to install. The directions were straightforward and easy to follow. The seat itself felt well constructed and I really liked the feel of the fabric. It feels ventilated and high tech while still being soft. It's not wool- but it's still moisture wicking. I also like that it's flame-retardant chemical free. I did knock off a star- my daughter has a hard time un-clipping the chest strap herself when we drop her off for carpool at school. But that is the only thing I don't like about this seat. I'm excited to test it in the 100+ degree temps this summer.
Thanks to the Stellar Product Review panel for providing us with this seat to test out with our little one. This is my first time using a Maxi Cosi product, and I'm impressed. The fit and finish is excellent; the Pria seems well made and like it will stand up to a rough and tumble toddler. The cup holders and fan feature are impressive extras, and the seat comes equipped with all the padding needed for the littlest passengers. While we didn't hear the fan turn on during our testing period (our area of the country is already experiencing winter's chill), I do think it will go a long way to keeping kiddo cool in the warmer months. The fan units are self contained in the headrest and seem like they would be able to be easily cleaned in the event of any larger messes. The Proa isn't the easiest seat we've ever installed in our '22 Odyssey, but it wasn't the most difficult, either. It's most secure in the seat when latched to the built-in anchors. Threading the lap belt is a little cumbersome but doable, and seems secure. Kiddo and seat are still under the vehicle's weight limit for the anchors, so that's what we stuck with. I did notice the straps are more prone to bunching/twisting than some other seats I've encountered, but it's not a fatal flaw as much as something to be aware of. The chest buckle is a clever design, and not easily undone by tiny fingers. Our two year old seemed very comfortable and I was pleased with the ergonomics of the setup, as she is still rear facing. I was dubious about having to plug in a car seat to get the most out of its functionality, but the cord routes well through the back of the seat and we were able to thread it under our floor protectors. Great for folks with multiple kiddos or animals who may have tripping concerns. While I did receive this seat through a testing panel, it's made me a believer in Maxi Cosi and I'll be considering the brand for future purchases.
I was given this all in one car seat to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. Overall, I was impressed with this car seat a. I really like the color scheme, and it has a very cushy and comfortable seat. and side impact protection. It is amazingly lightweight! It was easy to install, and the cooling system was very simple to set up and get plugged in. It's currently wintertime where we live, so we haven't been able to test it out yet, but I think it will be a really excellent feature in the hot summer months! It's easy to adjust the seat's recline positions, especially compared to the other convertible car seat we own of a different brand. The no-rethread harness adjustment handle feels kind of cheap and plastic-y and isn't super easy to engage, but it moves smoothly once you're able to actually squeeze the handle. The carseat manual says that when the seat is installed rear facing, it should be touching the vehicle's seat in front of it, if possible. This is not possible in our vehicle unless it's fully reclined, which would not be comfortable for an older infant or toddler. I always want to install a car seat with the ideal position, but I wasn't able to in this case. I absolutely love the magnetic chest clip feature! I think it's brilliant. To be honest, it does feel a bit cheaply made and that struck me as concerning initially. But I know car seats have to pass rigorous safety testing, so it must be fine and secure. I love the concept, and how it functions; I just wish it felt a little more well-made. The seat also come with magnets on the side of the sear that are supposed to hold the shoulder straps open when the seat isn't in use, but they don't work at all. They hardly even seem magnetic at all. I'm not sure why this super simple feature, that could be very handy, failed. Overall, I'm impressed with this seat and look forward to using it in the warm months! @stellarreviews #stellarreviewers @maxicosiusa #WeCarryTheFuture.
This car seat stands out for its premium-feeling and breathable fabric. I love that the fabric is light enough in color that it won't get super hot on sunny days, but still grey and dark enough that it won't show every speck of dirt either. It has a nice feeling to it and the parts of the car seat where your baby or toddler will be most nestled in are mesh, so that they will still cool. My little guy tends to run very hot so I think that especially in the warmer months, this will be a game changer for him. Of course the coolest feature of them all on this car seat is the built in fan and "chill" factor. Unfortunately it is December right now so I have not had a chance to really test this meaningfully, but it seems like it'll be extremely useful come spring and summer. My little one seems very comfortable in it. In terms of other features, I love the double cupholders. Adjustability seems on par with other car seats of a similar price point-- no need to rethread the harness which is great. I don't love how the chest buckle works because it's a little tricky to do one handed, but my biggest gripe is that there is nowhere on the sides of the car seat to insert the straps/buckles to hold them outwards. Some car seats have little pockets you can tuck the straps and/or buckles into so that they don't get in the way when you are putting your kiddo in-- this helps so that you don't have to then dig the straps/buckles out from under them. I think this is a big oversight at this price point personally. However, I think if you have a little one who runs hot, this is a really innovative car seat that will keep them a lot more comfortable than any other I've seen. I was given this all in one car seat to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. All opinions are my own.
