Mayne Madison Polyethylene Rain Barrel - White

Had a path on the side of the house leading to the front yard gate. Wanted to put in a stone path with perrenials all along it against the fence. Only problem was the gutter downspout emptied out where I wanted the path. A traditional, round ugly barrel would have ruined the look. This is just beautiful, adds interest. Because it's in the shade, I planted ferns in it. Did put down a piece of heavy-duty weed fabric over the holes in the planter portion so dirt would not flow into the barrel portion.One tip, used the flexi downspouts from [...] to connect the gutter to the barrel. The end of the flexispout did not want to stay in the barrel top, so I took the top off and turned it over, made a couple of small cuts in end of flexispout so I could push it in further then duct taped it in place from the inside...made connecting flexispout to gutter much easier and provides for a neat, finished look.

We have laid pavers for our patio and the water from the gutters and downspouts kept washing out the grouting, so bought 2 of these rain barrels for the downspouts and they just work beautifully. In addition to the usefulness, have planted flowers in the top of them and they look amazing. Definitely add a uniqueness to our patio. Everyone loves them!

One star off for poor overflow hose design - rounded version does not conform to path and sticks out too far in back, preventing bringing barrel close to wall. Original design with smaller cross-section partially flattened pipe was better. An added refinement would be to provide 90 degree elbows to allow hoses to be brought out to sides allowing bringing back of barrel into close contact with wall. Would like option to bring overflow hose out to side at bottom as well.

I wish this had a filter screen as the oak rain barrel I recently ordered from you. The style is beautiful and looks lovely on my patio. The drain hose should be on the side as the hose keeps creasing in the back. I like a faucet much better. If I had kept the box I would return this one and order another barrel like the first order.

I was disappointed upon opening the box and inspecting the Rain Catcher, to find the poor de-burring job at the seams of the compression mold. (Photo attached). The deburring doesn't get any better as you continue looking at the components of the Rain Catcher. I guess I thought for $200, you'd get a better quality product. I'll finish grinding the seams and other components myself as the (2) Rain Catchers I purchased are going to enjoy prominent places in front of my wife's Studio.

We chose this product because it looks a little better than most rain barrels and because of its integrated planter. However we are VERY disappointed with the performance of the item. PROS: it is somewhat lightweight, and it does come in white and black. It has a good size planter on top, with drainage holes. The planter is easily removable.The garden hose is very short, however, it looks like you can connect another hose directly to its shut off valve. The customer service for the company itself (Mayne) has been good. CONS: The overflow hose it comes with it is DIFFERENT from what the photos show: it is not a flat blue hose (this has been discontinued according to the company), but a rigid, black tube, that will NOT fit in the groove in the back of the planter, nor underneath it. It will just curve behind it, so you can't place the barrel too close to the house without squashing it or cutting it. Also both hoses the barrel comes with need to be connected using the metal connector provided: these do not provide an adequate seal, and water leaks out from the hoses, no matter how much you tighten them. These are serious design flaws. Finally, keep in mid that a 40 gallons barrel fills up very fast. We live in Southern California, and 20 minutes of light rain filled it up. The item is quite bulky, otherwise I would return it. I will go to my home improvement store instead to see if I can seal the holes better. For the price, I should not have to look for something to fix it.
