I absolutely love these anise seeds! The aroma is warm and sweet, instantly elevating any dish. I usually use them for tea, but I recently tried them with sweet potatoes and the flavor was incredible, perfectly sweet, rich, and not overpowering at all. They add such a unique depth of flavor, and I'll definitely be using them more often in both my drinks and cooking.
McCormick Gourmet Anise Seed has become a quiet staple in my spice rack. The aroma is bright and unmistakably licorice-forward without any musty or stale notes you sometimes get from older spices. I used it in a slow-braised lamb dish, and the flavor came through clearly. The jar is well-sealed so I think this spice will keep its potency. For a baseline pantry spice, it punches above its price point.
This anise seed seasoning is very high-quality and has a very strong flavor. Thanks Bzzagent for the awesome product! Some other brands that I've tried are not as flavorful. I used in my Thai and other Asian dishes to get that unique flavor that anise seed provides. I would recommend you to anybody who wants that unique flavor added to their dishes, either sweet or savory!
I know that star anise and anise seed are slightly different but I actually used this in some pork stew to create a five spice kind of flavor! It was really good and added some depth of flavor. The container is very easy to use and a good size for storage. I appreciated that it comes sealed inside in addition to the lid so that it stays very fresh. I look forward to trying this for baking as well.
I made sugar cookies with McCormick Anise seeds. The outcome was delicious! I received the seeds as a free gift to try. Making cookies with them was the perfect thing. The seeds were easy to work with and the added taste to the cookies was great! Can't wait to make another batch.
Been feeling a bit nostalgic lately. I received a sample of the McCormick Gourmet Organic Anise Seed. I immediately thought cookies were used to have at every family holiday gathering. I tweaked my late grandma's recipe for gingerbread cookies to use the McCormick Gourmet Organic Anise Seed in place of ground anise. To be honest, nothing tastes the same as when grandma made it, but those cookies were really good. Family approved.
I dont use anise seed often in cooking, but using a high quality spice definitely makes a difference. As soon as I opened the jar I could tell this was a fresh, high quality spice. You can smell that slight licorice smell, and it just gives a wonderful aroma. I also love the packaging, with a glass jar and pleasant label. It is definitely a step up from cheaper options, and I am glad to have this in my pantry. I would highly recommend if you appreciate quality spices.
I tried these anise seeds in cookies and it worked really well. It added a warm, fragrant, slightly licorice note that pairs nicely with sugar and butter. It's strong, so I only used a small pinch, but it made the flavor more interesting overall. I would buy again!
I've not cooked with anise seed and I've recently started using star anise whole. I have had trouble with getting the right amount out with the whole anise. This provides solid flavor that's adjustable. My one worry is how much I need per use. I don't want to use too much to quick, but I'm still experimenting
In my experience anise flavor is an acquired taste. With the right recipe though, it can make all the difference. I made some Italian anise biscotti and they were absolutely delicious. If you're on the fence about trying anise seed, test out a few different recipes and see if it makes a difference and changes your mind.
