I accepted the challenge of rating these cumin seeds and decided to pick a recipe that would be a clear Pass/Fail situation. The high quality glass jar has a high grade inner seal and when I removed it, the cumin smelled clean and fresh. The notes were very clear, unlike old or low quality spices that can smell musty and muted. Next, as and As an Indian food lover,7 it occurred to me that the recipe I had been wanting to try out for Paratha (indian flatbread bread) has simple ingredients with the only spice being cumin. Better yet, this scenario gad cumin as the only spice AND it required toasting to "wake up" the seeds and then crushing with my little mortar & pestle. The resulting Indian bread was a simple cumin laced accompaniment to a complex Vindaloo lamb. The cumin was subtle but distinct. I was very impressed and my dinner guests agreed. In grading these cumin seeds from opening, toasting, grinding, combining with neutrally flavored ingredients and then rolling and pan frying in the bread, I enjoyed the fresh aroma with its high sweet notes and base notes of pungency. 8 would recommend these seeds in particular with those of premium specialty spice retailers. I am converted and intend to buy several other spices in this line. I was and am definitely and unexpectedly impressed.
If you've ever tried ground cumin and used it in cooking, you know it adds this beautiful warm smoky flavor to things. Especially meats. I've even used it in potato salad! So I received this McCormick Gourmet Organic Cumin Seed to try and the first thing you notice is the smell when you open the lid and take the seal off. Its the real deal. Its so perfect and I couldn't wait to try it! I used it to marinade 2" thick pork loin chops and after a few hours it smelled incredible. Once I dumped the marinade, I made a spice rub with it including a few other spices, but I wanted the flavor profile to be mostly the cumin seed. My chops received RAVE reviews! Everyone loved that smoky warm slightly middle eastern flavor the cumin gave to the pork. This was a win for me. I've always used McCormick spices my whole life but these are an elevated option and soooo worth it! I cant wait to try more of them.
I was given McCormick Gourmet™ Organic Cumin Seed for free in exchange for an honest review. I was really surprised on how much I liked the cumin seeds. I have a huge container of ground cumin but found the McCormick Gourmet™ Organic Cumin Seed is noticeably fresher smelling. I am shaking the seeds on everything like eggs, nachos, etc. They add a little zip to whatever you put them on. I think the McCormick Gourmet™ Organic Cumin Seed is the way to go from now on. You can grind the seeds if you want or leave them whole. I like that they are organic and fresh. I am hooked on the seeds and will opt for McCormick Gourmet™ Organic Cumin Seed the next time I buy cumin.
I recently used McCormick Organic Cumin in a homemade taco skillet and it really elevated the flavor. The spice has a warm, earthy aroma with a slightly citrusy note that tastes fresh and vibrant compared to standard cumin. It blended beautifully with garlic, chili powder, and paprika, giving the dish a rich, authentic depth. For the recipe, I browned ground beef with onions, then added the cumin and other spices before mixing in tomatoes and beans for a simple, flavorful one-pan meal. It's a pantry staple that makes everyday recipes taste more intentional and well-seasoned.
These are best cumin seeds I ever used. Such a nice aroma and it gives great flavor to all dishes. I roasted it slightly and then use it as a seasoning . I love the glass bottle packaging too .McCormick sent me this free sample through the BzzAgent sampling program.
I tried this Cumin Seeds with my grilled chicken on a flat top grill and it gave it such an amazing warm smokey flavor! I marinaded the chicken thighs and I was already getting hungry just watching it sit. The smell is very distinct and noticeable but not too much to throw you off. It's like a fine taste that you find comforting. My family loved the chicken and the food was gone after seconds were delivered! I love the idea of this product being organic, I feel that it has a much cleaner taste to it overall vs other items I've tried. I will definitely continue to buy this as my family can't stop talking about it. I would recommend this to my friends, as the summer time is just now getting started, it's grill season!
The packaging for this product is great. I love that it is glass and you can see the product. It was very fresh and smelled great. The first day I received it we made lasagna and it was delicious. This is definitely a staple I will keep in my pantry and will be buying again soon.
I used the McCormick Gourmet Organic Cumin Seed to make a Sourdough Jeera Boulle. Outstanding! Toasted the seed, then lightly crushed, then added to my dough as an inclusion. Sprinkled a bit on top. Delish! The freshest flavored cumin seed I've tasted.
Cumin seeds is one of my favorite spices which I use quite a lot in our various traditional meals. I use it for sauté in oil to make our traditional curries. This cumin seeds always adds an extra flavor/ taste and aroma to the food. I love the smell of it .Specially loved this brand for these fresh smelling spices
I would recommend this brand. It's sealed well and comes out of the container well. It tastes great. If you like to cook then this brand is the way to go. Not everyone like cumin, and the seeds, we crushed it and used it and it was great. but if you do then go with a trusted brand like McCormick. Just buy it already! The packaging is beautiful.
