I am an avid cook, and I am always looking for great spices to add to my dishes. This organic mustard seed from McCormick did not let me down. The product was packaged well, and it was super fresh. I tried this in several dishes and was thrilled with the results. The mustard was mild but full of flavor. If you aren't sure about how to try it, I recommend a simple side that I tried, and it came out great; the whole family loved it. Cut small Yukon Gold potatoes in half and toss them with olive oil, salt, pepper, and a generous helping of McCormick organic mustard seeds, then bake until fork tender. I am confident you will like it as much as we did!
The McCormick mustard seed comes in a nice, heavy glass jar with a shaker cover and screw top lid. It's a standard size that will work in all your spice racks. The mustard seeds are organic with a beautiful color and nice aromatic. I used them by frying in oil to pop them and boy did they pop. It was like miniature popcorn was flying out of my pan and around my kitchen. Fun tip - have a lid ready to control the pops. In the past, I've used dried mustard powder but will appreciate the fresh seeds. I used them in a NYT beans recipe that my family loved. I often cook Indian inspired food and know these seeds will find a place in these recipes but believe they are a subtle addition to many recipes to add a delicate, fresh flavor.
I was excited to try some new Indian recipes with these mustard seeds. While I haven't gotten around to all of my experimenting just yet, I have loved sprinkling these onto my salads. They add a delicious crunchy spice that amps up the refreshing salad taste. Love these!
I find these mustard seeds to be high quality and a great value. They have a nice and strong vinegar-like zip to them. They are bright and provide a nice acid taste. I used them in the brine for homemade pickles, and I am really happy with how they turned out. The packaging is nice too. I really like how heavy the glass jar feels. Overall, I like the affordability compared to higher end brands. I received this product free of charge for testing and reviewing purposes.
Organic Yellow Mustard Seeds have a fresh aroma and a mild, slightly nutty flavor that really stands out when cooking. I used them in homemade pickles, and they added a nice depth of flavor without being overpowering. McCormick sent me this free sample through the BzzAgent sampling program, and it was a great introduction to using whole mustard seeds in everyday recipes.
Thanks to McCormick for sending me these to try! These mustard seeds were great quality! Even from the first time I cracked open the jar, I could tell we were going to love using these. I made some delicious pickled onions right away and have been using them on everything. I would not hesitate to try other spices and seasonings in this line!!
I'm really impressed with the quality of these McCormick Gourmet Organic Yellow Mustard Seeds. They come perfectly sealed for freshness and pack a flavor that builds to a really nice potency that elevated homemade pickles and corned beef. Even better, they are ideal for making homemade mustard—they reached my preferred flavor and mellowed much quicker than any other seeds I've used in the past. Try frying them and sprinkle on avocado toast, salads or stews. They add that perfect punchy crunchy finish!
I pickle mustard seeds first (simple recipes can be found on line) and then use them in salads. The McCormick Gourmet Organic Yellow Mustard Seeds were the perfect addition to my bacon potato salad after they were pickled. They provided the perfect burst of zest opposite the saltiness of the bacon. I highly recommend this brand and I am glad to have found it.
I've used this a few times now and honestly it's just a solid kitchen staple. The seeds smell fresh, taste good, and work really well in pickling, spice blends, and even some Indian dishes. I like that it's organic, and McCormick is one of those brands I usually trust to be consistent. The only downside is the bottle is a little small if you use mustard seed often, but for most home cooking it's a great buy.
These are solid. When you open the bottle, you can immediately smell the mustard seeds. They are fresh and have a long shelf life (mine are over 3 years out). They grind nicely and are also great whole. Also, doesn't hurt that the bottle is super classy looking.
