This tasty orange frosting is delicious on vanilla and chocolate cupcakes, or try it on a spiced cupcake or cake. This recipe makes about 2 1/2 cups of frosting, enough for a 2 layer cake or about 24 cupcakes. • 1/2 cup (4 ounces) unsalted butter, room temperature • 3 to 3 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract • 1 1/2 teaspoons orange extract • 1 heaping tablespoon finely grated orange zest • 3 to 4 tablespoons fresh orange juice • a few drops orange food coloring, if desired I love this product and I use it for anything that I want that orange flavor.
This extract has a great orange flavor and scent. I use it in cookies, muffins, French toast, baked goods such as cakes, cupcakes or pastries, specialty breads, marinades, just about anything I want an orange flavor and scent added to the recipe. McCormick's extracts have been around a long time and I prefer them over many brands including Watkins. The only runner up for me is Neilson-Massey and they are pricey compared to McCormick's. Not that spices and extracts of quality are cheap, but McCormick's is not excessive. I used this in my orange flavored breakfast rolls all the time. See the picture. I took this before the family devoured my baking. I would recommend McCormick's spices and extracts to everyone, first time bakers to professionals. They are my go-to brand and have been for over 50 years of baking and cooking.
I have been wanting to try McCormicks orange extract for awhile but always forgot to buy it. I was so happy to finally be able to experiment with the flavoring and see how I liked it. It is AMAZING!!! If you like orange creamsicle ice cream you will love this because it tastes exactly like that. I found a quick, easy recipe for mousse several years ago and that's where I wanted to try this first. You take 1 - 8oz. bar of cream cheese and let it soften. With your strongest mixer, whip it with 1/2 cup of milk until smooth. Add 1 - 4 serving box of instant pudding (I used vanilla for this one) and 2 more cups of milk and then whip until smooth and the pudding has dissolved. Spoon into 4 ramekins or smaller bowls and refrigerate for an hour or longer. I usually make this with chocolate pudding but this orange mousse is definitely my favorite now. So creamy and it reminds me of eating a creamsicle ice cream bar as a kid. I can't wait to try this flavoring in a vanilla cake mix and use it to make orange frosting. It's perfect for treats at Halloween or Thanksgiving, too. I highly recommend trying McCormick's pure orange extract if you are tired of the usual flavorings and looking for something to WOW your family and friends. It's a winner!
I used this in place of orange peels b/c I didnt have any. It added a great flavor and I have been looking for more recipes with orange in them so I have an excuse to use this again! Glad I got to try it.
I used the pure orange extract in the frosting for a chocolate cake. The frosting has a nice tangy flavor that goes excellent with the chocolate flavor of the cake. I look forward to trying it in other recipes. A great addition to my spice cabinet.
I used this to make cake pops was pleased with results.
This is a product that I have always wanted to try. My sister always added orange flavoring to her french toast batter and it gave it a unique taste. I tried this product in my french toast batter and it was almost the same as hers is. Just a couple of drops is more than sufficient to give it that unique flavor. One added plus is the design of the bottle top. It has a small ledge that prevents the liquid from dripping off down the side of the bottle. Can't wait to try it on other things!
I recently had the opportunity to preview this wonderful orange extract from McCormick , and at first I wasn't sure what on earth I would put it into , but then I decided to make a batch of corn muffins , and in preparing the corn muffin batter I decided to add a splash of the orange extract along with a splash of orange juice , and as I baked them my house smelled absolutely wonderful !!! This extract gave my corn muffins a wonderful orange taste that my whole family enjoyed !!! I will be sure to use this extract the next time I bake corn muffins , also this extract would be wonderful to use in cake batter too!
fresh and tasty
I have many extracts by McCormick: peppermint for my winter hot chocolates, almond for baked goods, coconut for the occasional Sunday pancakes, vanilla for just about anything sweet, and I thought orange would be a nice addition. I used it in a pound cake instead of what the recipe called for which was orange zest. I've made the recipe with zest prior, so I thought it'd be a good test. And honestly, the zest has a better taste to it than the extract. There is a slight more artificial taste to the extract (which is to be expected). I don't actually know if I used it correctly, as it didn't appear in the recipe itself. But I used a small amount as to not overpower the cake. Still, I liked using the zest better. But I guess if I didn't have an orange around, and a recipe called for the flavor, I could use this extract in a pinch. I can see it working to make an orange creamsicle ice cream flavor in the future.
