Medela Sonata® Smart Double Electric Breast Pump

I received my new Sonata pump yesterday and I'm already in love with it! My daughter is 5 weeks old and I am an exclusively pumping as she refuses to nurse, so I spend quite a bit of time using my pump. I also have a freestyle that is great when I'm on the go. But this sonata was perfect for middle of the night pumping. Extremely quiet and I love the connectivity to the Medela app!!

I have loved everything about this pump, from how silent it is, easy to use, very small light and portable. It has very strong suction and I feel contributed to my improved success lasting longer on exclusive breastmilk. My only complaint is that the tubing is bending and kinking Affecting poor section as well as cracking on the tubing. The lack of accessibility to just individual parts with this pump is disappointing. Bothered that I would have to get the entire replacement set just for tubing. I bought this for my LO before I delivered. I delivered in November 2021. I upgraded through my insurance and paid some out of pocket for this pump because I wanted a hospital grade pump. With my last pregnancy I wasn't able to breastfeed for long because of my supply so I wanted to be prepared this time. I am currently exclusively pumping and this pump does great with my supply. The pump is easy to use with and without the app. The parts are easy to assemble and clean. I don't have any complaints about the pump at all.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I needed a new pump for my 5th child was using a medela pump from last pregnancy and still working but needed better suction. Was so pleased with the quick shipping, costumer service and the pump overall.

Just bought this model in hopes that it would compare to the hospital grade I used after giving birth. Though I had to wait longer to receive the pump (due to filing issues on this site), I was happy to finally get this in the mail. It's working out very well. The mini cooler has made night time feeding a breeze!

I really wanted to love this pump given its sleek design and it's super quiet but unfortunately it's not my go-to pump. 1. Suction. Seems fine, a bit erratic but that could have been my supply. I've gotten anywhere from 1oz only to 10+ oz so hard to say. It does feel smoother. Not clear that this is better than Freestyle or pump in style. 2. Cleaning. It says to sanitize with every use. Not practical. Nice that all parts can be put in the dishwasher but they are bulky. If you are washing by hand, there are still a lot of nooks and crannies so need multiple shapes of cleaning tools. 3. Size. Pretty big so definitely not travel friendly. Parts are also bulky as mentioned above. 4. Design. Looks cool and nice feel to the buttons. Definitely the quietest pump! Makes a nice gentle noise rather than machine-like sounds. 5. Cost. So expensive! And the parts are expensive! Not sure worth the extra $200 just for quiet pumping. Other... Haven't used the related app. Not sure what it does. Don't really need it to measure minutes. Would be better if it measured ounces. Nice to have another pump lying around the house but I'm not buying an extra set of parts so those isn't becoming my go-to pump.

I got this as a gift and would not recommend it if you're already using another pump. The Sonata has more parts to wash and it was difficult to take a part after each use. I get that Medela put some effort into a rechargeable battery, user interface with timer, Bluetooth capability and made it a closed system like the Ameda. So if you've never used another breast pump before you might like this. But I'm just used my In Style Advanced and will be switching back to it.

Medela has litterally taken 10 Steps back with this pump. This contraption is a pain to wash and the pump it goes to is not nearly as powerful as the pump In style even though it claims to be like a medical grade breast pump. Stick with the pump in style. The rechargeable battery does not hold its charge after one pump as well. The bag that comes with is was a poor idea. Clearly not a lot of time and testing was put into the developement of this product.
