Medline Assist Bedside Bar

Krista713 May 12, 2015

This bar has come in very handy for we recently had a situation in our family where my elderly parents were in need of assistance of getting out of bed and getting back in bed. For there are times when there isn't someone right there to help as needed. The bar was very easy to assemble and slide in between the mattresses perfectly. It has a little pocket or pouch on the side for little items you may want to put in there. It seems to be very sturdy. We moved it back and forth on the side of the bed until we found a spot that was more helpful and beneficial for easy usage. For we didn't want to take a chance of our loved one falling trying to use this and get in and out of bed. I think its perfect for those that want or need a little assistance but still want to feel that they have their independence about them, for I understand this very much. Its hard wanting and trying to help those you love when they really cant manage on their own any more. That is one of the reasons I chose this item, was to help but still let them manage some things on their own, I know someday soon I will be at this stage too, and I still would like to feel I still have my dignity about me, and not have to entirely depend on someone else. I would definitely recommend this for anyone that needs personal assistance or has a loved one at home that needs help with small things like this. It was a big help in our house hold.

Great for Anyone

Kelley February 18, 2017

This bar is perfect. It has adjustable legs that fit my bed perfectly. I keep it at the top of the bed for assistance in scooting to the edge of the bed as well as getting out of bed. I put the storage bag on the inside of the bar, which works much better for me than having it on the outside. I also did not attach the strap around the mattress, which allows me to slide the bar out slightly to make the bed. I find that it is still very stable without the strap, however for someone who might be a serious fall risk, the strap would probably be very helpful. I like it that there are legs on this bar. I feel like it adds to its stability. It also has a nicely padded handle. I cannot say enough good things about this product. It would even be nice for someone who does not necessarily need it.

Great help to senior with knee problems

T680 May 3, 2015

I got this for my elderly parent to help her with getting out of bed and prevent falls. It does require assembly but the included directions are somewhat easy to understand and it simply snaps together. It seems to be pretty sturdy and can support you well when leaning on it to stand up out of bed. The center bar simply slides in between your mattress and box spring on most beds. There is a metal loop on the end of the center bar and a long nylon strap that attaches to it and you then loop the strap around the opposite bed rail to prevent the Assist Bar from sliding out accidentally. I tried it without the strap and it's still pretty secure but I do recommend securing it properly with the strap to the opposite bed rail. The legs have rubber feet to prevent it slipping and they can be height adjusted to fit how tall your bed is. The top grab handle has foam padding around it and is easy to hold on to. It too can be adjusted for height. I adjusted it just a few inches off the mattress top so she could swing her legs over it, with it positioned toward the foot of the bed. There is also included a small mesh pouch for storing miscellaneous items you might keep around your bed. Overall, it's well designed, sturdy, safe and it seems to be really helping my parent stand up when getting out of bed. I'd definitely recommend it for anyone with knee problems or even if you just want something secure to grab onto, to help you get on your feet in the morning.

Nice Safety Feature

wilmalou2 April 24, 2015

The Medline bed assist Bar is just what we were looking for that added security for my dad. He needs a little help to get out of bed after having a second stroke. It comes in pieces in the box so you do have to put it together. There are no tools needed as it all snaps together. It only takes a few minutes to put together. It has the push button that slide into the slots for easy adjustment. Like on a cane if you are familiar with that. With having arthritis in my hands its a tad bid hard for me to push the buttons in but I can do it. It just took a little more patients. Directions are simple and easy to follow. When you have it put together you just adjust the height, and you slide it between the mattress and the box spring, put on the safety strap and it is ready to go. One little down side. The part that confuses me and this is the only negative that I have to say about it. It comes with a strap that fastens to the bar and it goes around the box spring to hold it in place so it does not come out. We put it on a King Size bed. It says right in the manual that it may not fit all King Size beds and it was not long enough for the bed that we put it on so we had to take a strap that we had at hone and and add it on. I guess if I were the manufacturer and knew that some beds were bigger I would either make a bigger strap or put an extension in the box. We just so happen to have an additional strap at home but I am sure a lot of people don't . So, please be aware if you have a King Size Bed the strap may not fit your bed. It is sturdy and secure. It is a nice simple safety device to attach to the bed with out any tools. It is easily taken down if no longer needed. It is sturdy and has a covering on the top for a soft grip. It also comes with a bag that fits on it so you have a place to put magazines or I could see putting the remote in it.

Just What the Doctor Ordered!!!

MumzeeC April 30, 2015

My 93 year old father has congestive heart failure among many, many other problems. He has a hard time walking and getting in and out of bed. My husband attached the Medline bed assist bar to his bed and it has made life much easier. He sits on the side of the bed and is able to hang on to the bar and "push" himself into bed. It is also a safely factor which will stop him from accidentally rolling out of bed. Having the Medline Bed Assist Bar give us comfort in knowing he is safe and it has made Dad happy as it has given him independence which is so important to him. The bar is very sturdy so you don't have to worry about it bending in half. This would make a great addition to anyone's home if you or a loved one are experiencing medical issues.

Best Bar assist!

Diana May 21, 2016

I purchased this assistance bar for mymother who is 79 and just had shoulder replacement surgery. I reviewed other assistance bars on the site before purchasing this one. This unit is substantial, safe and the perfect choice. It is easy to put together and helps my mother get herself in and out of bed easily. Don't hesitate on buying this; it is reasonably priced and works great!

Bed bar

cullen May 11, 2015

I never knew there was a bed rail like this. It is amazing. I can lift myself up on the side of my bed, then hold onto it to get up to reach my cane. It is very durable & holds alot of weight. I don't have the fear of it bending or collapsing. It has a little pocket on the top so I can put my cough drops,Kleenex or anything I might need and not clutter up my nightstands. I didn't think it would be sturdy, but boy was I wrong. You can't go wrong by buying this product. It is such a big help for me. I wish I had of known about them before. I might have had less falls, if I had of known about a rail along time ago. It is easy to assemble, basically all you do is pop on the legs and slip it under your mattress. First I put it at the foot of my bed because I slide to the foot to get to my cane and then to my wheelchair. I then put it on my side of the bed, raise myself up.get my cane and go to my wheelchair. This is a Blessing for me. I hope anyone that needs assistance getting up will buy this. You will never be sorry you bought it or more thankful that you bought it.

Great item for surgery recovery or elders

QueenOfInterneShopping May 7, 2015

I wanted this item because my 90 lb mother in law was staying with us while recovering from heart surgery. She was weak and fragile and also unsteady. This was perfect for helping her position herself into and out of bed. The item needs some assembly but it all snaps together with push buttons so it needs no tools. We had it adjusted to the bed and ready to use in 5 minutes. The hook on bag was perfect for her tablet, book and glasses so she could reach them without twisting in bed. The top is a soft foam and allows a good grip without slipping. The rubber feet also are great. at my house there is a carpet so it wasn't much of an issue but i plan to send it home with her and she has hard wood flooring. Both the top bar and legs are adjustable so it can be a lower handle or a higher bed and still work perfectly. It comes with a strap to strap the bar that slides under the mattress to the mattress itself but I didn't use that since she is so small she couldn't have moved it anyway. This is great for her and will be great at home for my mother in law since she is 80 yrs old and we worry about her safety but I can see this would be awesome for hip or knee surgery recovery as well. I would even see it as a super item for someone with a broken leg, knee or foot issue where you might want just a little assistance without calling for help all the time.

Takes getting used to

Espo24 May 13, 2015

I gave this to my 89 year old mother to try; she is ambulatory but needs a cane or rollator to help her walk. I put it together and slid it between the box spring and the mattress. I didn’t tie it with the straps that come with it because my mother was dubious about being able to swing her legs to get into the bed with the bar in the way. It was really easy to snap together in a few minutes. The directions said to face the storage pocket on the outside, but I switched it to the inside facing the bed as this seemed more convenient for reaching a remote control or other bedside items. Even without the straps, there was no problem holding my mother’s weight, and she is 200 lbs. I followed the picture on the outside of the box and put the bar toward the foot of the bed. My mother could not get into bed easily with the assist bar in the way. She usually faces the bed and goes in knees first, then swings her legs onto the bed. I had to remove the bar to let her get on the bed. She was able to use the assist bar OK to get out of bed, but she said it wasn’t any easier and it was a little awkward. So then we moved the bar to the head of the bed, and it was much easier and nothing was in the way. Her biggest objection is that it will be harder to make the bed!
