MEGA Pokemon Detective Pikachu Loudred

This Mega Construx set is great! It was a little hard for my 5 year old to put together by herself but her older brother (14 years old) who is a HUGE Pokemon fan was happy to help her build it. They both played with it and it stayed put together! I call it a major win when I can find something both of them will be entertained by! I have no hesitation about giving this 5stars! My 6.5 year old boy has started showing interest in Pokemon, although he has not seen the new Pikachu movie. He also is a big fan of Legos. Although this product is not Lego brand, the quality was similar and the instructions were clear and easy to follow. We received this about a month ago. The instructions were easy to follow for both older kids and adults. The pieces were sturdy and the colors were fun. There were many small packages inside the box separating the different pieces. Unfortunately the box cannot be use easily for storage, so the pieces will need to be kept in a separate case so we don't lose the parts and instructions. The pieces are all very small, and definitely need an older kid to put together, and might need a little help from an adult with some parts. It's a fun design and we had fun building it together. We just finished watching this movie shortly before getting this character to build. My 8 year old had some initial issues since some of the parts are a little difficult to put together. I'm not sure that a 6 year old could build this all by themselves. The instructions are mostly clear for a parent to build but children need to pay special attention to the colors to see how pieces are supposed to be attached together. Sometimes its not initially very clear. My son tried to build it himself, got one of the first steps wrong and we had to rebuild the whole thing. Honestly, the hardest part is building the first few steps correctly so that all the pieces will connect right. I like that the arms and legs are movable and posable, but sometimes, it takes some force to get the ball inserted into the joint. When I first saw it, I thought the teeth and toes would easily fall off but after my son, and his twin 6 year old brothers played with it, they remained attached. I wish that Mega Construx would separate the blocks into numbered bags like Lego does though. I didn't like to have all the pieces everywhere at one time. Instructions are poorly done and are not as clear like lego's but they work. Some of the pieces were hard to snap together. Various bags for the pieces for no reason but I wasn't missing any pieces and actually had a few extra pieces. My son received this toy, but he had a difficult time putting it together. The blocks are tiny and the instructions were hard for him to understand (he is 6). I helped him put it together and he enjoyed playing with it afterwards. I think he could have done it on his own, but it would have been very time consuming and he doesn't have much patience. I would recommend this toy, but only if your child is a fan of Pikachu and loves Lego blocks; then this would be a fun toy/activity. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
