Melissa and Doug brand toys are always a hit in my household and these blocks are a hit. My 5 yr old dove right in as soon as I took them out of the box. Brightly colored fun blocks for all ages. I even got to building with my kiddo letting our imagination run wild. This is an oldie but a goodie. A nice break from screen time! It challenges my child's brain to use his imagination to build new interesting things. He loves it. Another classic home rug by Melissa and Doug! My kids have their rugs, kite, and puzzles by them as well.
Review of Melissa and Doug 75 multi-colored wooden block set. This is a fun toy for kids to just have free play. However, there are also ideas on the back of the box to turn this into educational play. Some of the ideas are: making patterns, sorting by color or shape, making a face from the pieces, and stacking the pieces up high (and counting them as they add each piece). Kids will also enjoy finding matching pieces and lining them up. I have included a picture of how many are included of each shape. I remember playing with a version of toys similar to this when I was a kid in kindergarten and they were some of my favorites. The bright colors and solid pieces make this an engaging and sturdy play toy. This also helps young kids learn their shapes and colors. Overall five out of five stars.
To start off of by saying I love the brand Melissa & Doug. There has not been a toy by them I have not liked. My daughter absolutely loves these blocks. They can help your child learn shapes, colors, how to build and they are just all around fun. Cant want for my baby to be able to play with them one day. Classic toy.
These blocks are a fun way to share imagination with my son, we build everything from statues, to houses, to tall towers and more. No matter how many toys he has these blocks are always his go to when we sit down to play! They are made from wood so I know they are going to last for many years, and memories to come.
So much possibility with these little blocks! Learning colors, shapes, balancing, make believe and pretend. We use ours to make buildings and castles for our mini figures, cages for our zoo creatures, roads for our cars, competitions of how tall can your tower be. 75 pieces is the perfect amount for us but I'm sure you could always add more for even bigger play. Toys like this inevitably end up in a child's mouth, but I don't worry about toxic paint peeling off or wood chips becoming a hazard to little fingers and mouths. These are easy to clean and will provide years of creative play. I really like all of Melissa & Doug's toys and these blocks are another classic favorite for our family.
I purchased for a friend's 3 year old grandson for Christmas. The blocks are colorful and nicely boxed. I am sure he will have fun creating different structures while learning shapes and colors. Shipping was outstanding, ordered Dec. 4th arrived on the 7th, a very satisfied shopper !
These blocks are just the quality you would expect from the Melissa & Doug brand. They don't have any rough edges or splinters. They are smooth on all sides so they are safe for small delicate hands. They stack easily and are nice bright standard colors. The bag they come is is a great place to store them when not in use.
I have never had a Melissa & Doug product I haven't like. They make quality toys and games, and this 75 piece Multi-Colored Wooden Block set is no exception. My youngest saw me carry this in and said, and I quote, "Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!!!" After playing with them for a little while, my youngest says, "These are fun blocks!" We are virtual schooling this year and this is our fun reward for after schooling is done for the day. Pros: *wood (not plastic) *colorful *shapes fit nicely and some nest well *can teach balance and measurement (some shapes have sides which are the same lengths as the sides of other shapes--see pictures) *teaches engineering and math [how 3-D shapes are formed (math), how 3-D shapes fit together (math + engineering) and how to build using different shapes (engineering)] *smooth to the touch *no funny smell or smell at all Cons: Absolutely none :) I recommend this for pre-K through at least 3rd grade. These smooth, colorful, wooden blocks really help to visualize three dimensional shapes and how those shapes can be built together to make other shapes. They can also be used to illustrate how 3-D shapes can be formed by having the kids examine the individual pieces. (A cylinder is made from 2 circles and a rectangle, a rectangular prism is made from 2 squares and 4 rectangles, et cetera.) This simple and fun S.T.E.M toy is great for improving engineering and math skills for young kids. (I have to admit, I plan on having fun building with my kids, too.)
My 2 grandsons ages 2 & 4 didn't really like playing with these. The reason is because they are too slippery; I would assume from the poly coating on them. When they would stack and try to build they kept falling off.
From the photos on the product description page, I thought I was buying much larger blocks. Some of the blocks are very small for a 2 year old child. Why so small? Larger blocks, like what used to be available, would be much easier for a child to enjoy. Disappointed.
