Makes Rufus' Mouth Water

larissamorn May 12, 2015

I started feeding this about two weeks ago and our dog loves it! He picks out the freeze dried bits first, apparently they are scrumptious. Though he's been eating Merrick Grain Free Duck since he was about a year old he's never licked the bowl and asked for seconds. Now...he'd eat the whole bag if we'd let him. This will be his food going forward. Thanks Merrick!!

Updated review

Heidi November 6, 2015

Last time I posted, I was disappointed in the amount of raw bits in the bag. I decided to give it another go after customer support convinced me I had a bad bag. Boy am I glad I listened! I feed my 90lb golden retriever 2cups per day, and each feeding has at least a dozen raw bits in it. I even mixed the bag well thinking they just all rose to the top. Radar loves this food, and I love that his coat looks great and he has no skin problems. I'm a customer for life!

4 Paws Up

EllaInTheCity May 4, 2015

My rescue pup Ella LOVES the new BackCountry line! She ate it all up the first time I poured it into her bowl (which is saying a LOT since she's a picky eater). I've been mixing in freeze dried pieces into her kibble for a year now, and was so excited that Merrick finally introduced a line with them already in there. Those little bites are the first thing Ella eats when I set the bowl down. She give this new line 4 paws up! I love that the first ingredient is real meat, it's available at Petco, and that Merrick gives back to shelter dogs!

Another winner!

Batersmom April 22, 2015

Lily has been on Merrick for over 3 years now. She was on the Classic Chicken and Green Pea for most of those 3 years. When we heard about the new Backcountry formula, we wanted to give it a try. Lily loves freeze dried treats and I felt that the inclusion of freeze dried meat would be a great addition to her plain kibble. We tried out the small bag to see if she would like it. She loves this recipe. She sees me go to the bag and rushes over to her bowl. She also likes to pick out and eat all the freeze dried bits first, which I find funny. Her coat looks great, her energy is high, and at her last vet visit, they told me to keep doing whatever I was doing as she was a very healthy dog. I could easily save money by giving her something different, but I would rather spend the extra money and give her a better quality food. If you are looking for a great food for you pet, try out Merrick.

Dogs love it....

fluffzoeygriffin May 1, 2015

We bought this about 3 weeks ago and our 3 cavalier king Charles spaniels love it. They are very picky eaters and they chow this food down. We have always used Merrick food and are so happy about this new food.

Good but quality has been slipping

JonSnowsMom April 6, 2018

I have been feeding my dogs this recipe for years and they love it! Would be five stars but my only complaint is over the last five months, I have purchased two 22 pound bags of the Backcountry game bird recipe that contain absolutely zero freeze dried raw pieces. Zero, not even any freeze dried crumbs. One bag I purchased from Petco, the other bag from chewy. Is this is the beginning of a disappointing trend of decreasing quality and consistency? I really don't want to change their food but if this keeps up...

Great food when the raw infused doesn't run out

Decap22 April 10, 2016

I have been feeding my Chocolate Lab this food since it came out. She loves it when she eats it. The biggest problem I have is I have had at least 4 bags run out of the Raw Infused food. I would mix the bags when I got them to make sure it wasn't all at the top. The last 2 bags I have bought recently have had the entire bottom half of the bag with all kibble and no Raw Infused whatsoever. This is very frustrating and am thinking of switching to another Merrick recipie. If that doesn't work I may need to switch brands, which would be a shame because she has eaten Merrick her entire life. You need to have better quality control and make sure that these bags are filled up more evenly.

Where is the raw?

jpippin January 22, 2017

I have an Aussie-Mix and a very picky eater, so when I purchased her first bag of Merrick she loved it. The down side is the last 2 bags lacked the percentage of raw kibble and that is frustrating considering being a higher end brand? Also, I have read comments about Purina buying out Merrick and that concerns me as well. I may purchase the grain free without raw since paying extra for nothing really. Sounds like I am not alone regarding these issues. Please make this right for your furry customers.

Definitely not 38% raw

RonnieS April 16, 2016

I'm on the 2nd bag of this food and there's very little raw infused in the bag compared to the 1st bag. I only have the 1st bag as comparison, but the 2nd bag definitely doesn't have 38% raw. I have the lot code, it's best by 7/28/2017 16027 DL2 37018 07:15. My dog loved the 1st bag, but he doesn't seem to like this 2nd bag as well so he must really love the raw infused pieces. I just purchased a 3rd bag and it's from a different batch, so we'll see. If it's no different than bag #2, we will switch to a different brand because it speaks to a lack of consistency and quality control.
