I have been using a corded Bosch for 15 years and this cordless Metabo offers the identical power and performance.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Drills holes in block and concrete like it's nothing. I just recently had to remove a small concrete slab and it made the job easy with a chisel bit. Battery life is better than expected though still would have multiple batteries or the wall adapter handy for larger jobs.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Really happy with this drill, the slow start feature comes in really handy and battery lasts well and charged fast, no complaints yet.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was contacted by a representative from Metabo HPT and was asked if I was interested in reviewing their new DH 3628DD Cordless Rotary Hammer in return for my honest, written opinion. The only requirements were that I include, along with my review, pictures, and descriptions of the projects that I used during the evaluation. I've purchased four other Hitachi/Metabo tools that include their C12RSH2 Compound Sliding Miter Saw, DH26PF Rotary Hammer, G 12SR3 Angle Grinder and a NP 35A Pin Nailer in the past and all have performed exceptionally well over their years of service. The DH3628DD came in a well-designed blow molded case that accepts the tool, adjustable side handle and a depth stop. Upon receipt I immediately plugged in the charger and inserted the battery. I was expecting the charging process to be rather quick however it did take a few hours to charge. This was also the case after I had used it demoing a concrete fence post anchor after approximately 30 minutes of use. The multi-volt charger has a USB A charging port and a built-in fan. There are four charging status indicator lights that display the charging progress and an audible “beep” to notify you when the battery is fully charged. There is only one issue I found with this charger and that is that after the battery has been removed, there is a red indicator light that constantly flashes. I have several different brands of battery powered tools and this is the only one that has this, albeit a minor but annoying feature. The tool, with battery and side handle attached, weighs in at, according to my scale, 6.5 pounds. At this weight I felt, if needed, that I could easily work with this rotary hammer all day long without fatigue. The rotary hammer's function dial is clearly marked and easily moved, even with gloved hands. The forward and reverse switch is located directly above the trigger. While it does have positive stops, I repeatedly had problems with it moving from forward to reverse while wearing single layer leather gloves. Conversely, it was not a problem while using it with bare hands. But this is a power tool that requires the user to use proper personal protection gear and, gloves do fall into that category. I used this rotary hammer drill for three different projects; one involved simple drilling operation and two were demolition related. Unfortunately, I only had a photographer for one of the three. The first project I used it for was to rehang two cypress outdoor shutters on my home. They had been off the house for several years and the original holes had been filled. In this project the hammer drill performed flawlessly drilling into both the mortar joints and brick My second project involved removing excess concrete from around a fence post that the previous owner installed to make way for a drainage project. I started out using the chisel point followed by two flat bits. The process was slow, but I was able to make some progress. Drilling into the concrete first followed by using the demo bits sped up the process significantly. The DH 3628DD has, what they call Reactive Force Control (RFC) that reduces jerking of the tool if the bit gets stuck. I found out the hard way that this feature is invaluable not only for the tool but, more importantly, the operator. After drilling several holes into the concrete and switching it back to hammer mode I inserted the point bit into one of the holes when it became stuck. When I switched back to hammer/drill mode and attempted to reverse it, instead of jerking the tool out of my hand like others I've used, it stopped immediately. The third and final project wasn't planned but my neighbor needed to install a dryer vent cover on the outside of his brick home. This required near surgical precision to remove both mortar and some brick that was keeping the cover from mating up with the metal vent. This operation took about 5 minutes to complete and, once again the DH 3628DD performed exceptionally well. My overall impression of the DD 3628DD is that it's a very reliable rotary hammer that would satisfy the needs of any homeowner or contractor that required a lightweight, cordless SDS-plus rotary hammer drill. It clearly shines when drilling into concrete and brick. However, but based on my experience this wouldn't be my go-to tool for anything more than minor demolition. I did not get to the point of depleting the battery. During my use the indicator on the tool always stayed on the second bar. I am concerned that since it comes with only one battery and the time it takes to recharge it that it could become an issue for anyone during continuous operation. The forward/reverse selector is an issue, at least for me, while using gloves and lastly, the supplied depth rod is made of plastic that flexes easily and may not stand up to the rigors of construction. I am not a professional tradesman but have been performing extensive DIY projects that includes construction, electrical, plumbing, renovation, and remodeling for 35 years. I also have experience in maintaining, restoring and rebuilding both contemporary and older power tools and woodworking machines.
I've been teaching the Construction Technology program at Iowa Lakes Community College for nearly 20 years. I have the privilege or working with young people that are interested in construction as a career, so it is very beneficial to get good tools in their hands to try out to see what they like and how helpful a good tool can be. When we got our hands on the new Metabo HPT 36V MultiVolt SDS Plus 1-1/8” D-Handle Rotary Hammer, we were thoroughly impressed. My students and I were able to put it through its paces drilling quite a few holes in the concrete slab of the duplex we are building this year in order to secure the bottom plate of several walls to the floor that hadn't been properly tied down yet. When the students were using it, I heard several key words or phrases that I wrote down including: “smooth,” “efficient,” “steady,” “this depth stop is great,” “the auto-stop feature is awesome,” “this has tons of power,” and “I love the fact that this is cordless, but it drills faster than the corded drill we used earlier in the year!” I tested out the auto stop feature and was impressed with how well it worked. I drilled the first hole through the bottom plate and stopped when it got through the wood and hit concrete. I drilled multiple other holes, and the drill stopped each time just as it got through the wood and into the concrete. All in all, I am very impressed with the power, speed, features, and efficiency of this tool! We've already switched this drill with the corded one we used to keep in the jobsite trailer!
I bought this a month ago and I'm glad that I did. It; cuts so easy and is very well balanced. I love the fact that it is cordless so I can use it out in the middle of nowhere.
I'm a General Contractor in Arizona, we do most trades in house. We work our tools hard! And this tool is an absolute beast! It's light and comfortable to use. But really is a work horse!
I have had and have other reciprocating saws but this is my favorite. It's very strong and is a good design
The item arrives without battery and charger. The cost of the battery and charger is 120$ the drill itself 220$. When you can buy the same dewalt.
