This is the second one of these I've owned. They are simple, reliable, lightweight and spin up very quickly.
Very similar to my previously owned Hitachi cordless screwdriver, so for that reason I'm very pleased with it!
Purchased one when it was called Hitachi in 2016 now new one is the same quality again best cordless screw driver Ive ever used in a HVAC world
I work part time on computers and this power screwdriver was just what I needed for taking out all of the case screws. The clutch also keeps it from stripping these tiny screws. The two speeds work out fine also. I really like this Hitachi Power Screwdriver. A battery will last for several days using it like I do. I highly recommend it.
Spent a bit of time trying to find the right screwdriver. Mostly intended for small tasks to speed up repetitive actions and to ease pain from arthritis. This one surprised me as much more capable and found myself using it for tasks would have normally grabbed the impact driver. The clutch is essential and for me what makes it so versatile. Battery life met all my requirements. Materials feel solid. Weight and size is good for my hands. The straight to pistol grip feature doesn't lock, so quick to switch but a couple tomes did so inadvertently. That is about the only thing would change.
I considered DeWalt's similar products - their Gyro with Lithium Ion battery and their non-Lithium Ion power screwdriver that was more powerful (torque) but bigger and heavier. I decided to go with the Hitachi because of the lithium battery, adjustable clutch settings, charger, reliability, light weight and reviews were very very good. I have more powerful drills to power screws and such but wanted something more than a regular screwdriver. Can't beat warranty either.
Took a little getting used to. After about a hour using it I didn't think about it. I do like the power and speed selection. You can fine tune the torque. I am glad I purchased it.
Solid construction, handy compact size. Rubber grip helps to hold the tool securely in use. Replaceable rechargeable batteries make continuous all day use a breeze since the tool comes with 2 batteries that can be rotated and charged in 30 minutes or so with the included charger. Comes with a plastic carrying case. The screwdriver has a lock that stops accidental running when stored or in a tool bag for example. A thumb rocker switch allows quick forward and back motion. Unfortunately, the trigger buttons are placed on the left side of the tool which makes it great for right handed users, but puts the buttons on the wrong side for left handed users forcing them to use an index finger which makes a much less secure grip on the tool. The adjustable clutch was the reason I bought this tool since it's important to control the driving torque when driving screws into more delicate woods like particle board. There is a big problem with the adjustment. It's very very hard to turn. So much so that I was tempted to grab a pair of pliers to force it all the way over to the drill bit selection. After using it for a while and changing levels, I was forced to wear gloves to avoid hurting my hands when changing the torque. I'm sure tougher hands could do this with less effort, but since this is directed more at hobbyists, home owners, etc., one would think that it would be important to consider all of the people who might use this tool - men, women, retirees, teenagers, etc. The other issue I have is that the handle does not lock in the straight or angled position. There is a detent, but if you were pushing hard or twisting in a tight space, the handle moves too easily possibly scratching an item you are working on or damaging the fastener. Metabo/Hitachi needs to re-engineer this tool for a wider audience that includes lefties, allows for quick easy changing of the driving torque, and a locking feature for the handle to hold it in the selected position securely.
I have gone through too many cordless screwdrivers where the rechargeable battery simply stopped taking a charge and could not be replaced for a reasonable price, often absurdly early in the life of the tool. Thus my main goal with this purchase was a rechargeable cordless screwdriver with interchangeable batteries so that when one fails, I can still do work and the tool itself is not hooked up into the recharging station. The Hitachi seemed to be the only one in its price range that offered these features. The tool is still too new to have any opinion about the endurance or strength of these batteries. In basic operation it is a normal cordless screwdriver, not much different than its many predecessors. I do like the choice of speeds. The adjustable torque strikes me as a gimmick. The one negative is that the actual screwdriver bits fit far too loosely in the tool. They fall out when the tool faces down. And a special chuck that holds very small drills intended for use with cordless screwdrivers flops around too much for work of any precision. That is the big negative with the Hitachi. I have never seen a cordless screwdriver with such a loose fitting for the bits and attachments.
I purchased the product mostly because of the value and the positive reviews. However, after i put it to use i was very disappointed with the lack of power, the fact that it would pinch my hand when i switched the hinged body from angle to straight, poor lighting of the target unless the drill was oriented within a 45 degree portion of the 360 degrees. I realize as per the instructions that it doesn't hold a full charge for several cycles but mine wouldn't hold a good charge after 6 charging cycles.
