A Compilation of Metallica's Unreleased Material
Every artist has this 'unreleased', 'unedited' or 'uncensored' version which couldn't show up in commercial albums showcasing them before they had professional equipment and in the days they were simply messing around and having fun. This is where Metallica really poked fun at 80s hair metal bands, new wave bands and others that were more commercial than raw as they started raw. This also marks the difference between metal and punk as metal can get satirical and sarcastic in their song writing then make it look like a good time at the party whereas punk focuses on all the socio-political issues of the times (Sum 41 focuses on the spirit of skaters which is pranksterhood while calling out society in all its hubris) and can often sound like they are whining about it. Metallica doesn't, they are like the Adam's Family about it all, they treat even bad as having a good time in their music but remember it is satire and sarcasm. Still this is the album that showcased what Metallica could do beyond their regular albums with messages.
