Metropolis (The Complete Metropolis) (2010 Restored)

This was a gift and it needed to be this very specific DVD. It did arrive in time for the holiday season giftgiving. This was the real an obscure video that we needed. This is for a real film buff and he is very happy with the gift. It doesn't have any extra bells and whistles, but the pictures is very clear and it does play on the Blu-ray/DVD player.

I purchased the restored 1927 version of Metropolis (Blu-ray) because it contained 27 extra minutes, a movie that you have to watch. The plot is about the city's rich elite overseers son who falls in love with a humble kind hearted young poor girl who devotes her time preaching love, peace, not hate, not greed, to the over worked poor people of Metropolis. A mad scientist creates an identical female robot who looks like the kind hearted girl - the rest you will have to find out for yourself.

Wonderful to finally see the uncut masterpiece.

This blu-ray version restores Fritz Lang's masterpiece to nearly it's original theatrical release length. While the quality varies throughout (the Argentinian 16mm print interposed throughout the film is very grainy in quality) the versatile blu-ray format offers this nearly century old film in high definition - the result is a living breathing copy of the movie that no one has seen in generations. The restoration by Kino was thorough, beautiful, and respectfully done to the original notes and censorship cards. You will be moved by this film.
