Soft, not overly fir like a bone pillow previously bought. I have now purchased 3. My oldest son with sleep apnea loves his, we have gotten a pillow for his father's Christmas gift. Dad suffers from sleep apnea too. The other brand I purchased first is too stiff. The beads move around better, support without pain. Will be gifting more of these!
