Microsoft Surface plugs right in to this, and all needed additional ports to support other devices like keyboards, mouse, monitors.

Didn't fix issues with Surface Dock 2...
I had been using a Surface Dock 2 for a while, and it worked great, but recently I started having issues on my 49" ultrawide OLED monitor. I saw in a tech article that this thunderbolt dock version works better with the weird resolutions, so I got this on sale. And while it did help a little for some of the scan lines I'd randomly see in solid colors, it did not help any of the other issues, like simply having the monitor go utterly black once in a while out of the blue. And why on Earth would anyone from Microsoft REMOVE the magnetic surface connect port from a SURFACE DOCK? That's one of the greatest things for me with the Surface devices over the years I've had so many - the magnetic dock connector. Now it's just a USB C port which introduces wear and tear and potential breaking. Definitely a downgrade for the money...
